I trailed a finger down his forearm. “You can’t resist me?”

“Definitely not.” His eyes darkened with desire.

“Fine.” I gave him one more quick kiss before opening the door and jumping out. Luca’s car was the only other one here, but he might have picked up Noah and Vince on his way.

I knocked on the front door, but Gavin opened it and stepped in without waiting.

“In the kitchen,” Sky called, and we headed in the direction of the voices.

“Hey.” Vince was the first to see me and pushed Gavin out of the way to hug me. “I thought you couldn’t come.”

I snuggled against his chest. I hadn’t realized until now how much I missed him. Outside of school, we haven’t had much time together. “Dad canceled.”

He laughed. “Bummer, no shopping for you.”

“Nope.” I rested my chin on his chest, so I could look up at him. “Now you’re stuck with me.”

“My dream come true.” He smiled and kissed my forehead.

“Enough hogging.” Sky pulled Vince away and replaced him, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Mmm, you smell like strawberries and . . .” He sniffed my hair. “Coconut?”

“It’s a new leave-in conditioner. Do you like it?” I laughed at his thoughtful expression. He was seriously contemplating.

“Yes.” He inhaled deeply. “Yes, I approve.”

“That’s what was different,” Vince said. “I couldn’t figure it out.”

I looked around. “Anyone else need to test it?” I held out my ponytail.

“Me.” Noah pushed Sky out of the way and put his nose in my hair. “Mmm. Yes, good choice.”

“My turn.” Luca appeared at my side and took my hair in his hand and sniffed. “Not too strong.” He nodded. “Yeah, I like it. It smells like summer.”

“I’m glad everyone approves.” I laughed and looked around. “What’s the plan?”

Gavin straightened. “I think since there’s six of us now, we should split into three teams of two. One will go to the apartment building we can’t ID, one will go to the business address, and one will tail Juliet.”

“Dibs to be with Ave!” Sky and Vince shouted at the same time.

“Yeah, no,” Luca said with a smirk.

“What do you mean?” Sky asked. “You just assume you get to be with her?”

“I mean, we should make it fair. Of course, we all want to be with her, but there are five of us and one of her. We’re not rotating. That would be too complicated, so we’ll flip for it.”

Vince rolled his eyes. “Fine.”

“I’ll moderate.” Gavin glanced at me before stepping between them. “Luca and Noah, you guys first. Whoever wins faces off against the other winner.”

“What about you? You don’t want to be paired with her?” Noah asked.

Gavin hesitated for the briefest moment but I was pretty sure I was the only one to catch it. “It’s only for an afternoon. I’m fine with anyone.”

“Fine,” Noah grumbled.

“Luca, call it,” I said so Gavin didn’t get blamed by whoever lost.

“Heads,” Luca said, and Gavin pulled a quarter from his pocket, flipped it, and caught it in his palm. He opened his hand.
