“God, Nara, give it up! They are just fucking machines. I am not dying for them.”

“No, don’t!” The female yelled before there was the sound of a scuffle, and with a hiss, the door slid open to reveal three humans dressed in lab coats. Two males were holding onto a female who was struggling in their grasp.

I raised my plasma rifle and pointed it at them. The males quickly let go of the female and put their hands in the air.

“We don’t want any trouble. Just please take the cyborgs and go!” One of the males pleaded, his eyes wide with fear.

“And take her, too!” The other male shoved the female forward. She hit the floor, letting out a cry of pain. Tears filled her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She lifted her hands up, her arms visibly shaking. “I’ll do whatever you want. Please don’t hurt them.”

“The human males are safe,” I frowned. “I do not understand why you would care after they hurt you. You humans make no sense.”

“Not them! The cyborgs! I don’t care what you do with those assholes as long as my cyborgs are safe!”

One of the males growled. “You little bitch! I will kill you my-“ Boom. The human’s head exploded in a spray of blood and brain matter.

“Brone!” Reaper yelled.

The Tank class simply shrugged. “What? I wasn’t going to stand back and watch him hurt a female.” He flashed the shocked female a grin and winked. “And I think I like this one.”

“You… no…” the female, Nara, shook her head in disbelief.

Oz lowed her weapon and patted Brone’s arm. “Why don’t I take it from here, big guy?” Oz dropped to her knees in front of the female and smiled. “Nara, is it?”

She nodded, her gaze darting from Oz and Brone, her eyes wide with terror. “Don’t look at them, look at me, okay?”

“You’re…you’re human,” Nara stuttered.

“Yep. Sort of. I can explain later. Right now, though, I need you to take me to your cyborgs, okay? I promise we aren’t here to hurt them. Do you know they were planning to sell them to the highest bidder, Nara? That is why we are here. They deserve to be free, Nara. Not sold to rich humans who may hurt them.”

Nara shook she head. “No! They told me that wasn’t going to happen. They said…”

“They lied, Nara. That’s what they do. The cyborgs behind me never malfunctioned. That was just the lie The Global Allegiance spread so they could justify killing them.”

“Who fucking cares? They are worthless machines! No better than my holovid player at home!” The remaining male scoffed.

Boom. The remaining human male’s head exploded as if on cue.

Brone gave another shrug. “What? My finger slipped.”

“He just…he just killed…”

Oz grabbed the female’s hand. “Ignore that. Those guys were assholes, remember? Focus on my face, Nara. Where are the cyborgs?”

Her shoulders dropped in defeat. “They are in the room behind me.”

Reaper strode past her, but she caught his ankle. “They don’t know you. I’ll get them for you.” Rising on shaky legs, she pulled the edges of her lab coat together and straightened her shoulders.

Punching in the access code, the door whooshed open, and she stepped inside with Reaper following right behind her.

There, sitting on a small cot, sat three cyborgs. The one closest to the door stood up. His coloring was bright silver, his eyes glowing like melted mercury. A gold colored one was the next to rise, standing next to the other, so close their frames brushed. The bronze-colored cyborg stood up last, pressing his frame into the side of the gold one.

“Miss. Nara, how can we assist you?” The silver one asked in a polite tone.

“Caliber, these are my friends.” She reached back and took Reaper’s hand, tugging him until he stood beside her. “This is Reaper. He’s a cyborg like the three of you. He and his friends are here to take you home.”

The golden one tilted his head, eyes flashing. “But this is our home.”

Nara shook her head. “No. This is where you were created. It’s concrete and steel. It’s no place to call home. I know you don’t understand, but you will, I promise.”
