Sighing loudly, I follow in the direction that he went. Jumping in fright when suddenly a woman is hurrying out of a side door and bumping straight into me. “Oh” she gasps as she stumbles back.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.” She says rightening herself, “I’m Onyx” she introduces “and you must be Dawn?” I nod, realizing by her scent that she must be one of the mates. “Mystique is in the kitchen, if you go in through where I just came you will find her. I know that she has been worried about you.”

I smile placing my hand on her arm as I step around her, “thank you Onyx, it was nice meeting you.” Without waiting for a reply, I walk through the door and towards another door where I can hear voices floating towards me from. Mystique was kind enough to invite me to come and visit, I will not do anything to worry her.

I am about to walk into the kitchen when I hear Gunner’s name and stop, I don’t recognise the woman’s voice, but her voice is sad. “I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing to happen to him right now.” The woman says, “I really feel bad for him and all the turmoil he has gone through lately.”

“I think it might be a good thing,” I recognise Mystique’s voice, “Dawn will keep his mind too occupied for him to think of what happened.” I shake my head in disagreement, how can she possibly think that any man would ever forget that his manhood was gone.

“I hope you right, because it has been so sad to see him fight himself daily.” The extent of what happened has plagued most of the men ever since it happened. I know that most of them blame themselves for not reaching him in time, but hopefully as you say, Dawn will take him away from his own nightmares.”

Closing my eyes for a minute I take in a deep breath trying to ease my tense muscles before stepping into the kitchen. After hearing what the women were saying there is no way that I can let Gunner refuse our bond. The poor man has been suffering with what happened to him, and now that he has finally found his mate, there is no way that I am going to add to that pain just because he doesn’t have a body part. Something in the back of my mind is screaming that it’s an important body part, one that we would need if we wanted children, but seeing as Gunner is my mate, I guess children were not in my destiny.

“Mystique,” I call as I enter the kitchen, my tone light. Both women’s eyes snap from where they were looking towards me.

“Oh good, Dawn you up.” Mystique calls as she makes her way towards me, her arms open wide. “I didn’t even get a chance to greet you properly yesterday, I’m so sorry.” She slides her arms around my waist hugging me close.

“It’s okay don’t worry about it.” I mutter as I hug her back not wanting to remember yesterday’s embarrassment. She pulls away looking at me with a frown on her face, the smile that was there but a few moments ago now gone.

“Of course, I worry about it,” she says, “I invited you and you’re treated appallingly. Not only did I not greet you as I should, but Fang should have been more delicate in the way he revealed that bomb.” I widen my eyes a grin slipping out.

“Are you talking about the Fang I met yesterday, the one that is your mate?” an expression of amusement crosses my face, “I don’t think that wolf will ever be delicate.” Mystique pulls her tongue out at me a smile widening her lips.

“He can be very delicate,” at her words the three of us start laughing. A minute later Mystique is pulling me against her for a long hug.

“I have missed you.” She says

“Thank you for inviting me,” I say

“I’m sorry about what has happened so far.” Mystique says with a sombre look on her face.

“You couldn’t have known.” I appease with a shrug

“You know, Gunner is a really good man.” The woman that was talking to Mystique earlier states with a kind smile on her face.

“I’m sure he is, but he’s not interested in me.” The woman’s eyes widen in surprise, and then she shakes her head. “You are his mate, trust me Dawn the only thing he is interested in is you.”

“Yes, well he told me all about what was done to him, I doubt any man can ever come back from that.” I see Mystique and the woman’s look of confusion. As they look at each other and then back at me.

“He told you about them drugging him?” Mystique asks

“Well, umm…” I bite my lip trying to think of a way of talking about the subject, what if they don’t know what was done to him? Would I be breaking his confidence by telling them? “Do you know about everything?” I ask tentatively

“What do you mean?” the woman asks with a frown

“Well, you know, that he was…” I point down at my lap with a cutting motion, the confusion on their face tells me that they have no idea what I am talking about. I close my eyes in anger, damn, I have just revealed something that clearly Gunner didn’t want people to know.

“Are you saying that something besides being drugged happened to Gunner?” the woman asks

“I’m sorry, what is your name?” I ask trying to prolong the questioning so I can think of a way out of this.

“Oh, I’m Dakota” she introduces

“Nice to meet you Dakota, sorry to have interrupted your conversation when I walked in.” I say conversationally.

“Dawn stop, you are side-tracking.” Mystique warns as she places her hands on her hips, “you forget that I know you since we were children.” I huff in frustration, even though Gunner was a real ass I feel sorry for him and have a responsibility to keep his secrets. I know that he doesn’t want to bond with me, but I am still his mate and that should count for something.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” I mutter as I walk towards the kitchen table and take a seat. “Is there a possibility that I might get coffee?”
