“You’re supposed to drink a bag every four hours, no wonder you’re always so famished around the mortals.” Prince Douche snaps.
I know some vampires are required to drink blood more often than others, but he can’t be serious. Every four hours would make me feel like I’d eaten an entire buffet to myself. “I don’t know about you rich kids, but some of us didn’t grow up with the luxury of drinking every few hours.”
It’s Prince Douche’s turn to look shocked, he shakes his head and then steps forward right into my space just as a group of humans go past, “How are you not going crazy? Every single vampire in the history of the world requires frequent feedings or they’ll turn on the humans.”
“Guess I’m just not like you.” The second the words are out of my mouth; I wish I could take them back. It’s one thing to joke about not being normal but the truth of the matter is, I’m so far from a normal vampire, that I may as well not even be one.
“I’ll get her a bag on our way to class. Wez should be in his office right now.” Again Kal tries to pull me away from Prince Douche, but once more my wrist ends up clamped in his firm grip. “No, I’ll take her. You get to class; I’ve got time before mine starts and you can’t afford any more missed classes.”
The emotions playing out across Kal’s face would be laughable at any other time, but I really do need to talk to him about the newest stalker incident. “No, it’s ok, Kal can take me, we’ve got something we need to do along the way anyway.”
“Oh really, second day of classes and you’re already choosing to be with a loser over royalty huh?”
“What, no, I just….” I trail off, unsure how to explain myself or even why I suddenly feel the need to. “Look, just forget it. I’m a big girl, I can make my way across campus to Professor Carr’s office on my own.” I take off, feeling a momentary tug on my heart as I leave the two of them staring after me with stunned expressions, but I just don’t feel like arguing or playing the damsel in distress right now. I want to talk to Mr Carr without an audience and despite Kal knowing, I really don’t need him around to do that.
I finally find Mr Carr’s office located in the same building as the lecture halls, his office doesn’t have any windows facing the hallway, so instead of getting the opportunity to peek in on him, I have no choice but to knock. His voice calls out for me to enter but my hands are shaking. I’m not nervous or scared but there’s something about Wez Carr that makes me feel like I need to impress him. Smoothing my hands down the thighs of my jeans, I reach for the handle at the same time it flies open. I gasp as Mr Carr practically pulls me into the room by the wrist, his face a mask of stern disapproval.
“When someone calls for you to come in, that’s their way of saying the door is open.” He snarks and my face flushes bright red. It’s times like these that I really hate my complexion. While I don’t have the typical bone white flesh of most redheads, I do have a tendency to turn almost as red as my hair when I blush. “Sorry Sir.” I mumble as he drops my wrist and motions for me to take a seat in the only other chair in his small office. I park my ass on the edge of the seat and then blush to my roots as he just sits there in his chair staring at me.
For a moment, I wonder if he’s as attracted to me as I am to him. I know it’s frowned upon in the human world, but I have no idea if teacher-student relations are as taboo with vampires. I’ve never heard of anything like that happening at my other schools and this being a university, I’d imagine it wouldn’t be as bad.
“Did you get another note?” He asks, bringing my wandering mind back to reality.
“Note?” I ask as my fangs slip out.
“From your stalk….” He starts to say but his far too handsome face turns frowny as he sees my fangs, “Have you not been feeding properly?”
“I don’t feed as often as everyone else.” I mutter slightly afraid he’ll ask questions.
“Look, I know you’re not a pure breed, it’s on your file, but even hybrids require frequent feeding.” He rubs the back of his neck as though he’s uncomfortable before adding, “Hybrids tend to feel the hunger more once they’re sexually active or if they feed from someone with more pure blood than their own.”
My eyes go wide at the implication of that, not only did I feed off of a Royal but I have been more sexually active in the last few months than I used to be. I can’t tell him either of those things though so I just shrug and stare at my hands in my lap.
“Ali-Miss Collis, I need you to be honest with me here, if you require help working out a feeding schedule, I can do that or we can ask someone from Vamp Integration to help you. We don’t have to tell them you’re a hybrid, in fact I think it would be best for everyone if no one knows about that.” He takes a deep breath and then rounds his desk until he’s standing right beside my chair. I don’t dare look up; I don’t want anyone seeing how weak I feel about my secret being revealed.
“I don’t really think that’s a good idea. I’ve survived this long without the need to feed that often.”
“You really do need to feed more regularly, especially since two of your fellow students have mentioned being worried about your ability to suppress your urges already and it’s only the first week of classes.”
“Fine, what do I have to do?” I mutter, resigned to the fact that I don’t really have much of a choice right now. He doesn’t even get the chance to explain as the door bursts open and Prince Douche stalks in like he owns the place. “What the fuck?” Mr Carr snaps, jumping away from me with a guilty expression on his face before turning to glare at Prince Douche.
“Why didn’t you tell me you’re being stalked?” Prince Douche growls at me as though he has a right to know my personal crap.
“Who the fuck told you?” I shout, leaping from the seat and facing off against the asshole Prince with my hands on my hips.
“That’s irrelevant.” Is all he says before turning his gaze back to Mr Carr. “Why didn’t you tell me? As her Liege Lord I am duty bound to keep her safe from shit like this.”
“Technically you’re not her only Liege Lord.” Mr Carr snaps as I gasp at the fact he just outed my Hybrid status to the Prince not seconds after telling me it’d be best if no one knew.
“No one outranks me.”Whoa talk about narcissistic. He seriously thinks he’s the top dog!
“Al-Miss Collis,” That’s the second time he’s slipped up and started to call me by my first name. I'm tempted to just tell him to call me Alissa, but I’m still not sure what the protocols are for Vampire teachers. “I need to inform him about your status, he is right about one thing, he does need to know.”
“You just finished telling me it would be best if no one knew.”
“I can’t skirt the royal laws, as much as I would love to. As your Liege Lord he does have the right to know.”
“Status?” The Prince growls the single word out, glaring at me as though I’ve done something wrong.
