“It’s not meddling. It’s a set up,” Gunner huffs. “They want a girl to share, and Valerie mentioned what she could do with three guys.”
Holden rolls his eyes.
“One more weekend.” I agree. “I can wait until then.”
“And Paris two months from then. She has to agree to the marriage, place, and have a say in all of it.” Nick clarifies.
“Of course,” I say.
We agree and Nick and Holden head to bed, but Gunner lingers with me, filling his glass with brandy and handing it to me as he takes a drink straight from the bottle. He sighs heavily. “So we’re really doing this?”
“Do you want to wait?”
“No. I don’t. I just … normally people are together for a long while before they propose. Are you sure she’s going to be okay with this?” Gunner asks. “I just, I’m not arguing, I’m just worried about her.”
“I know.” I take a deep breath as if Sophie doesn’t already know. “I think it’s a risk to take. I’ll go first and if she says no, you guys don’t have to worry.”
“And only a week to find a ring.” He nods. “I have a lot to prepare.”
“You’re not the only one.” I chuckle. “What are the odds Nick and Holden are looking up rings right now?”
Gunner laughs and shakes his head, clinking the bottle against my glass. This has gone better than I thought possible. We’re all going to have Sophie forever.
SOPHIE
Iadjust my white dress for the fifth time. It’s got some nice blue glitter on it as well and looks good enough for Broadway … I think. I’ve never been. I take a deep breath and someone knocks on my door.
I open the door as I bounce into my black heels and then see Valerie. I gasp and jump into her arms. “Oh my god.”
“I’m here.”
“Oh my god!” I bounce and squeeze her tightly.
She laughs, then looks me over. Her eyebrow arches. “I’m not going to a surprise wedding right?”
I groan and take off my dress. I look at my closet and she suggests a gold dress instead. It’s elegant, kind of sexy, but not overkill. I drag it on and look at her mint green dress. It puts her delicate body on display. She has a lot of cleavage popping out.
“I know. Drink them in. It took a corset dress to make it happen, but I have huge boobs now.”
I laugh and swat her bottom. “And a sexy ass that could get people killed.”
“Well, those old men better be ready with their pacemakers.” She giggles.
I hug her again, so happy that she’s surprised me. As we go to the living room, I make her explain how all this happened. She said Gunner invited her and she wanted to surprise me, plus who can say no to Broadway.
All my men are lined up in suits, different colors, but all sexy as can be. Valerie whistles as I pick my jaw up from the ground. I’ve seen them in suits, but seeing themall waiting for meis something else entirely.
I kiss them each and then return to Valerie. What she said earlier sinks in and I look at Gunner. “I’m not fond of surprises.”
“This is a good one.”
His sly smile tells me there’s something else at play too. But we get into the limo and I let Nick and Gunner claim me as Holden and Valerie talk about the play we’re seeing, how it came about, all the background information.
Nick rubs my leg. “Are you excited?”
“I’ve never been,” I admit. “I’m afraid that I’m overdressed or not classy enough.”
He rolls his eyes and Gunner slides his arm over my shoulder. “They’re letting me in, sweets. I think you’re going to be approved.”
