"Talk to me?" he begs, and I'd love to but I can't. I'm sworn to secrecy and I hate that I can't be open and honest with him. "You're not going to, are you?"

I sigh as I take his hand and lead him to the sofa. Taking a seat I begin to let him into some of what's gone down with Mom.

"Growing up wasn't like what anyone should go through. Mom has always loved the lavish lifestyle. I used to joke that she'd sell me for a designer handbag." I laugh, "She loves attention, always has and always will. Any man can turn her head and I honestly believed that when she met you, that had changed."

His thumb caresses my hand. "I never loved her."

"Then why did you marry her?"

"She tried to play me, but I’m not stupid,” he tells me not answering my question.

"Why did you marry her?" I ask yet again.

"Told you, baby girl, I’m sick, but I don’t give a fuck. You are the reason."

My eyes widen, "What?"

"I saw you and knew that I couldn’t let you go."

I laugh, my mama has always hated being second best. "Oh wow, bet she really liked that, huh?"

He shrugs. "You're here though, aren't you?"

"Yeah," I reply softly, unsure how to handle his kind words.

“Georgie, has your mom ever hurt you?”

My eyes widen wondering why he thinks that, “Physically, no.” His jaw clenches, he opens his mouth but his words are stopped by the doorbell.

“Go,” I tell him, not wanting to say anything else.

He nods as I get up off the sofa, he doesn’t look happy but I’m glad for the reprieve.

CHAPTER3

WAYNE

I’m making it my mission to find out what the hell happened between Debbie and Georgie. I watch as the fiery brunette retreats up the stairs, pissed at the timing of whoever the fuck is at the door. Getting up when the doorbell rings again.

"What?" I growl as I open the door.

"Sorry, boss," Hardy says, his face blank which is never a good sign. He’s been searching for Debbie, the fucker is in the wind. She and Python haven’t once called to see how their daughter is.

I nod for him to follow me as I walk toward the office, I don't want Georgie overhearing what he has to say. The front door closes and I know that he's behind me even though I can't hear him. It's why I hired him, he's the very best there is and it took a bit of persuading for him to come and work for me; he's been with me for the past fifteen years. The man knows me better than I know myself sometimes.

"Boss," he says, closing the office door behind him.

"Tell me," I demand, taking a seat at my desk.

"Boss, tell me to mind my own business..." he begins and my brows raise, wondering what it is that he's got to ask or say. "You and Georgina?”

"What about Georgie and I?"

He doesn't back down, he stares at me, not once blinking. "Have you finally realized that she's the one for you?"

I blink. "I'm sorry?" What the actual fuck? Have I made it that obvious?

"Boss, I know you. I know that there's no way you'd marry that bitch. When I met Georgina, I knew why."
