In that moment, she realized that she'd done it. She'd followed the case through, hunted down the criminal, and arrested him. She'd actually done it.

Now, all she had to do was get Katz to confess.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Nicky stormed into the interrogation room at the Frankstown police station; it was nothing short of a dank, unimpressive box, but Nicky didn't care. She was ready to get Katz to fess up.

Ken was right beside her, and they both sat down across from Jordan Katz, who was fidgeting on the other side of the interrogation table. His hands were still cuffed behind his back, and he was still wearing his suit from the black-tie event. If Nicky had her way, the next thing he'd be wearing would be a prison jumper.

"Mr. Katz," Nicky said. "Are you ready to talk to us now?"

"I don't know what the hell this is about!" Katz yelled. "Why am I here?"

"You know why," Nicky said.

"No, really, I don't."

Exchanging a look with Nicky, Ken pulled out a file, took out a photo of Meghan Salinger, and slid it across the table.

"Do you recognize this woman, Jordan?" Nicky asked.

Jordan looked away. "Never seen her in my life.”

"Are you sure about that? Because you matched with her on a dating app."

"What? No I didn't. Even if I did, so what? I get thousands of matches."

Nicky's eyes narrowed. She was getting closer.

"Mr. Katz," Nicky said, "this is Meghan Salinger. She went missing six months ago. Are you sure you don't remember her?"

"I don't have any idea what you're talking about," Jordan said. "I have to go. You can't keep me here."

"Mr. Katz," Nicky said, "you're not going anywhere. You've been arrested for the kidnapping of Meghan Salinger."

"That's bullshit! You can't arrest me for that. I'm innocent! You don't have any evidence."

"You're not innocent," Ken said, "but you are going to tell us everything you know about Meghan Salinger's disappearance."

"You're not giving me a choice here, are you? Well, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t know squat about this chick or what happened to her.”

Ken leaned forward, staring into Jordan's eyes. "Is that so? Maybe it's time we revealed to you exactly what it is that's going to happen to you if you don't talk to us."

"I'm not even listening to you!" Jordan said. He raised his voice, looking around the room. "You can't keep me here!"

Nicky's patience was running thin. She took out the file with a photo of one of the other victims and flung it at Katz.

"This is Ella White. Do you remember her?"

"No!"

"What about Teresa Simmons? Do you remember her?"

Once again, Katz screamed, "No!"

"Well, Mr. Katz," Nicky said. "It's time to remember."

Ken slammed the file down on the table. It landed with a thud. "It's time you remembered."
