“It’s no big deal. When the doctor phoned with the results of our fertility exams, I lied and told you he said you had fertility issues. It was for your own good. You were at the height of your career. Having children would have distracted you.”

I collapse in a chair and bury my face in my hands. She lied. I can have children. I’ve been torturing myself for years thinking I was less of a man because of a fucking lie.

My nostrils flare as I glare at her. “You bitch!”

She gasps. “How dare you?”

I stand and point at her. “No. How dare you? How dare you lie about something as important as having children? Let me guess. You wanted me to concentrate on my career to make sure I kept bringing in the millions for you to spend. Joke’s on you. My career ended too soon anyway.”

Her lips purse. “Yes, I’m aware.”

“And yet, here you are, begging me to take you back. Leave, Sandra. Just leave. I am never taking you back. I will never for—” I cut myself off. There’s no sense rehashing the past. I’m done with it and her. I stalk out of the room.

She yells after me, “I’ll give you a child.”

“I don’t want your child.”

Ellery gives me a thumbs-up. “I’ll have her checked out within the hour.”

I nod but don’t stop to thank her. I’ve got somewhere I need to be. I sprint all the way from the inn to my house. When I rush inside, Ash’s waiting for me.

“How did your talk with Sandra go? I assume well since all the chatter on the Facebook page is about her skedaddling out of town.” She shakes her phone at me.

For once, I’m not annoyed with the ridiculous gossip page. I’m glad she knows my ex is on her way out of town.

I grasp her hand and lead her to the couch. “We need to talk.”

She yanks out of my hold. “Wait. Let me get my research.”

“Research? What are you researching?”

“Adoption. Male infertility. Sperm donation. The usual suspects when the man you love says he won’t have a relationship with you because he can’t have children.”

My stomach warms at her words. Did she mean them? I shackle her wrist to stop her from going anywhere. “The man you love?”

She rolls her eyes. “This seriously can’t be news to you. It’s always been you. I’ve loved you forever. And I always will.”

Screw the talk. I use my hold on her to draw her near. She crashes into me with an oomph. I don’t give her a chance to catch her breath before my lips are crashing down on hers. When she gasps, I shove my tongue into her mouth. I need her flavor – happiness, sunshine, and chocolate – on my tongue. It’s been entirely too long since I tasted her.

I thread my hands through her hair and tilt her head until it’s at the angle I need to allow me to fall deeper into the kiss. Her hands clutch my ass, and I can’t stop myself from shoving my erection into her stomach. She moans and lifts her leg to wrap it around my hips in response.

I lift her until her center is pressed against my hard length. I thrust into her, and her nails dig into my shoulders.

Shit. What am I doing? I’m dry humping the woman I love in the living room when there’s a perfectly good bed in the next room. I slow the strokes of my tongue until I’m giving her little pecks on her lips.

“Does this mean we don’t need to talk?” she asks between gasps for air.

Talk? Shit. Right. I need to explain some things to her. I loosen my hold on her waist until her legs fall. The sound of her boot hitting the floor startles me. Crap. I should be more careful with her.

“Sorry, dream girl, but we definitely need to talk.”

“Do I need to get my research?”

“No.” I guide her to the sofa and sit on the coffee table in front of her before gathering her hands in mine.

“Sandra lied.”

She snorts. “I’m sure she lied about lots of things. Bitches are known for their lying.”
