The doorbell sounds again.

“Maybe you can hide?”

Beckett grins. “Nah, I think I’ll just go let them in.”

Before I register his ridiculous words, he’s striding out of my room.

“What!?” I chase after him, “Beckett, you can’t do that!”

“Why not?” he doesn’t slow down, tossing the question over his shoulder as he descends the stairs.

I hurry to catch up, “Because you don’t get how they are! They’ll get the wrong idea!”

He stops at the bottom of the stairs and spins to face me; my momentum sends me crashing into his chest. Thankfully, he’s rooted in place and doesn’t so much as budge with the impact.

The seriousness in his eyes makes me feel like I’m about to get scolded, “Babe, they’ll get the right idea.”

Then he leans down, presses his lips to my forehead, and heads back towards the door.

Tingles from his stupid kiss zip over my skin distracting me.

But he doesn’t get it. He thinks they’ll get the idea that we’re dating, which I think we are. But in reality, my mother will jump straight to oh-my-god-they’re-getting-married idea.

Snapping out of my daze, I run the last few yards between myself and Beckett, “Wait!” but before I reach him, he unlocks the front door and swings it open.
