Holly wrapped her arms around herself.
“Oh, hell, baby,” Jonah said and hugged her to his chest.
Holly hadn’t realized she was crying.
“Shhh, it will be okay.”
“How did he get here?”
Nolan growled. “He’s working with Cason and Lacey in the human trafficking organization they started to help find the victims and catch the bad guys. Hell, he’s got his hands in every part of the trafficking.”
Jonah grunted. “That bastard has been one step in front of us for a long time.”
“I’m scared that he knows we’re here,” Holly said.
“He doesn’t, baby. We haven’t told anyone we don’t trust one hundred percent.”
She tilted her head back to see his face. “I bet a lot of people thought they could trust Jones because he was a cop.”
The sick feeling inside her grew, and she just needed it to stop so she could breathe.
Chapter Eighteen
Jonah held her tightly in his arms. God, it made him sick how close the girls had been to the monster and that he’d brought the bastard into his home.
“I’m so sorry,” he said against the top of her head.
“No, stop. You didn’t know.”
He tilted her head back and then pressed his lips to hers. “I’m supposed to protect my sweet little girl, and I almost—”
“Please, stop, Daddy. I feel safe with you. More than anyone else on the planet.”
He sighed and set his chin on the top of her head. How did he get so lucky to find a perfect woman for him?
“We need to get in touch with some people about the situation,” Jonah said. “How about we put in a movie for you two?”
Holly nodded. She was too tired to do anything but sit.
The men got the girls on the sofa, tucked into blankets next to each other.
She had no idea how much time had passed. All she knew was the movie was over, and she didn’t remember any of it. One thought kept running through her mind, and she couldn’t get it to stop.
She glanced at her friend to find her asleep against her shoulder.
“Hey, Caylee.”
“Mmmm?” Carlie hummed and blinked her eyes open.
“What if the guys get hurt because of us?” Holly asked.
Carlie stiffened, and tears filled her eyes. “I would be devastated.”
Holly nodded. “Me, too.”
“So, what do we do?”
“I was thinking about trying to get in touch with my mom.”
