I never dreamed that I would find that kind of love again; the one that makes you feel safe and warm.

Sebastian is evil. It’s not hard to tell. But I also sense that there’s some good in him too. He did spare my life.

CanI trust him?

A gasp bursts from my lips when I spy that bundle of blankets in his arms, and… are those for me?

No, they couldn’t be.

If they are planning to kill me, then why do they bring me food and blankets? It doesn’t make sense.

Sebastian stiffens when his eyes find me, and now he hovers in the corner like a shadow, cradling that bundle of blankets like a baby.

My lip wobbles when I see how soft and fluffy they are, and tears threaten to escape my eyes. I haven’t seen a blanket in years. Well, a real blanket.

They gave us nothing but horsehair blankets at the OCC, and they were itchy.

“I’ve… brought blankets.”

My breath stutters, and I close my gaping mouth lest I make a fool of myself. “Th-thank you.”

An agonizing silence follows after I give him my thanks, and I’m not sure what else to say. Thank you should be enough, right?

Sebastian steps toward me next, lessening the space between us, and I flinch. He stops, watching me warily. After a few moments, he takes another careful step, then passes me the bundle of blankets. I gaze at the soft fabric in shock, and a joy I haven’t felt in years washes through me like a ray of sunshine.

I… I have blankets.

I can make my nest.

My eyes find Sebastian again, and I swear some light has returned to his dark irises. I think I even see stars again, but it lasts only a moment. He steels himself, turning to leave.

I thank him yet again. “Thank you, Sebastian.”

The name leaves my lips before I realize, and I cover my mouth.

Oh no. What have I done? I just addressed an alpha by his first name!

Sebastian halts, and he takes a few moments to compose himself. I wait with bated breath, wondering if I screwed up.

Will he finally kill me? Do I have to pull Whitney out after all?

Finally, the alpha turns, and the shadows vanish from his face when he casts his gaze on me. I swear his mouth even pulls up at the corners.

“You’re welcome, Dove...”

My heart flutters when he calls me by my name, and I can’t believe he remembered. No alpha has cared to learn my name before.

Sebastian ascends the stairs again, and the moment he shuts the doors behind him, I run my hand over my new blankets. A sob slips from my lips.

So soft.

Maybe things won’t be so bad here.

Sebastian

I pass Roman as I enter the house, avoiding his eyes at all costs. I know he’s waiting for my answer.
