“You should come to my swim class atThe Carter.”

“Don’t you teach babies?”

“I have smaller kids in my class, yes, but the same principles apply. If you have a fear of water, you should start by getting used to the water first. That’s how I begin my classes,” Morris responded.

“How did you learn how to swim?”

“I’m not sure. I’ve always loved the water. I spent every summer in a pool somewhere.”

“Have you ever lost a student?”

“Yeah…kids move around all the time.”

“My heart just dropped to the floor when you said yes! I meant has anyone ever died!” I laughed.

“Oh,” he smirked. “No, I’m trained in CPR if something crazy were to happen. Plus, there are always other trained swimmers at the pool. We wouldn’t let anyone go down.”

“Sounds interesting.”

“I can guarantee you that you will learn to be comfortable with the water, at the very least, but I know I can teach you how to swim,” he said confidently.

“Morris, others have tried…” I started.

“Others weren’t me.”

I felt a little zip of electricity flow through me when he let his swag peek out for a second.

“Okay, we will see.”

Morris

After finishing my late afternoon meeting with one of my clients, I packed my briefcase and headed out the door.

I was starting a new swim class atThe Carter. Keeva sent me the roster of eight students. To my surprise, Ms. Cambria McLaren’s name was on the roster. She said she was going to try the class, but I figured she’d changed her mind since she hadn’t mentioned it.

I’d gotten out of the office a little early, so I decided to pick the girls up and have some time with them before our classes.

“Hey, munchkins!” I smiled once the girls arrived at the front desk of the center.

“Daddy!” Fee said while hugging me.

“Hi, Daddy,” Skye smiled and hugged me too. “We not going to our dance class?”

“Yes, I got out of the office a little early, so I figured we could grab a snack before we have to be at our classes. I wanted to hang out with my best girls.”

“I like that, Daddy,” Skye smiled.

“Me, too. Can we go to get the grilled cheese and spinach sandwiches from the place down the street?” Fee said.

“How does that sound to you, Skye?” I asked.

“I love those sandwiches,” Skye replied.

“Let’s go.”

I held each girl’s hand while we walked to the truck.

“How was your day?” I asked, looking at them through the rearview mirror as I navigated to the restaurant.
