“Don’t you want to look at a few more first?” she asked. “We’ve only been looking for five minutes.”
“I know what I like.” He winked. “You have time now?”
“I mean, I set aside a couple of hours for you, but—”
“Great. We can take my car,” he said, moving the chair back to the other side of the desk. It was a little askew, but she’d fix it later. “You gonna be okay in those shoes?” He nodded to her three-inch pumps.
“Oh, yeah. I wear these all day, every day. I’ll be fine,” she said absentmindedly while printing off the information sheet for the home. Just in case, she also printed the list they’d been looking at. If this didn’t pan out, maybe they could find something else close.
She grabbed her purse and dog carrier.
“You have two purses?” he asked with a curious look.
“One’s for Luna. She comes everywhere with me. Will that be a problem?”
“Uh, has she learned any manners about where and where not to pee?” he asked.
“Sure. I mean, not really. We’re working on it, okay?”
“Maybe we should take your car.”
“That’s fine. I’ll drive.” They walked out to the reception area. “Come on, sweet pea. Let’s go bye-bye.” Luna came running, and Kate scooped her up and put her in the dog purse.
“Never mind,” Adam said. “I’m a horrible passenger. Just promise me she’ll stay in the purse and not pee in my car.”
“Cross my heart.” She made an X with her finger over her chest.
She could see why he didn’t want dog pee in his car. It was the latest edition Range Rover and very luxurious. He punched the address into the GPS, and off they went.
“This is a great neighborhood,” Kate said. “I actually don’t live too far from here.”
“I already know I want it. Going to check it out is just a formality,” he stated.
“Seriously? How can you make a decision like that so fast?”
“I know what I like, and I don’t waste time.” He looked away from the road and winked again. Why did he keep winking after saying stuff like that? Was he flirting?
That wouldn’t be appropriate. She was his agent!
He sure smelled good though. And the way his arm muscles rippled when he turned the steering wheel? Hoo-boy. The sleeves of the T-shirt once again appeared to be too small. Didn’t they make clothes that fit muscular guys?Focus, Kate.
When they arrived, he threw the car in park and got out. On the ride over, she’d made a quick appointment on the phone app that real estate agents used to make a record that they were showing the house. Since the place was vacant, it didn’t matter that they weren’t giving any notice. She used a different app to get the keys out of the lockbox and unlocked the front door.
The home had an open floor plan and gorgeous, deep brown mahogany floors. She pulled out the information sheet and began reading.
“All the bathrooms and the kitchen have recently been remodeled. This flooring is laminate but looks like real wood. Fresh paint. Pretty much everything is brand new. And they used quality materials.” She walked to the kitchen and checked out the appliances. “It’s not that cheap junk some flippers use—no offense,” she interjected quickly.
“None taken. Some flippers do, do crap work.” He walked in behind her. “Whoever did the backsplash did a good job.”
“Yeah, and the cabinets look great too.”
“What’s the square footage?” he asked.
“Close to three thousand. That’s a lot of house. Will it just be you living here?” She told herself she wasnotfishing for information on whether he had a wife or girlfriend. She would ask that of any client.
“Just me and Duke.”
Oh. He was gay. He definitely put off a different vibe, but okay. She pushed away the hint of disappointment that ran through her. Of course, he had a significant other. He was rich and a hunk.
