“He wants us to be a family.”

“We are a family. You said it before, whether we marry or don’t marry, we will always be connected through Mickey.”

“I love my son, but he is not the only connection I want to have with you, Emma.”

“I believe you.”

“You do?”

“Yes, but...”

“But? How did I know there had to be a but?”

Emma couldn’t help smiling. “Because you know me.”

Kon’s smile was sensual as well as amused. “I do know you, so tell me about this but.”

“I want to go to Mirrus.” His family had all signed the custody agreement. Even so, it was a huge step of trust for her to take, but Emma couldn’t figure out how to find out what she needed to without meeting a bunch of royals.

“I thought we were going to Seattle from here?” he asked, his dark brows drawn together in question.

“I want to go to Mirrus first.”

“Why?” Kon didn’t sound worried, just curious.

“I want to meet your family.”

“You want to know they support us being together like I told you.”

“I never said you were stupid,” she commented, tongue in cheek.

But Kon frowned. “I bet you did, after I dumped you and you were pregnant with Mishka and could not contact me to tell me about our son. I bet you thought I was stupid then.”

“I thought you were lots of things, but most of them were wrong, so let’s not dwell on that time.”

“So, Mirrus?”

“Yes. I want to see how your family reacts to Mickey.” How they reacted to her as Mickey’s mother.

“My father will be thrilled. He’s threatened to come to New Mexico more than once. He wants to meet his grandson badly.”

“Threatened?” She latched onto that word quickly.

“For me having him show up while I am doing my best to court you and build a relationship with my son is a threat.”

“I see.”

“He wants to meet you as well. He wants to apologize.”

“For what?”

“For pushing me into breaking up with you.”

“He did?” That did not sound good.

“He didn’t know he was doing it. He was upset I had not fulfilled the contract yet and put me on some pretty spectacular guilt trips until I agreed to start things in motion with Nataliya.”

“Only you had to break up with me first.”
