He leaned down to grab a condom from his bedside table. He fumbled and swore when it slipped from his hand and went sailing when he tried to tear it open.

This sign that he was as lost to need as she was only sent Emma’s desire skyrocketing even as she smiled at him. “Having trouble there, stud?”

He growled. Like some big jungle cat. He grabbed another one, tearing it open with his teeth this time and then rolling it on with a look of pained ecstasy that sent pleasure jolting through her.

Kon came down over her, but even as he kissed her, he rolled them so she was on top again.

She leaned up, sitting on top of him, sliding her body so they were once again angled for perfect penetration. There was no buildup this time; she took him inside her in one downward thrust.

They both groaned and she started moving, riding him with absolute intent.

There would be no more interruptions. For this moment he was entirely hers and she held nothing back as she brought them closer and closer to orgasm.

He praised her, his hands running over her body in knowing caresses, giving pleasure and driving them both higher and higher.

He came first this time, his shout loud and all primal male.

She grabbed one of his hands, pressing it against her mound and he touched her just like she needed, bringing her over the precipice. Her entire body convulsed, her inner walls contracting around him, the pleasure exploding through her like a hurricane wave crashing over the shore.

She collapsed down on top of him and he hugged her to him like he couldn’t let her go.

Emma patted his chest with a desultory movement. “That’s every bit as good as it ever was.”

“Better.” Kon hugged her tighter. “Better.”

It had been amazing, but better? “Why better?”

“Because for the first time I made love to you without knowing in the back of my mind there was a time coming when I had to let you go.”

Sometimes...he said stuff that made her think he did love her. Like the way he’d described how he felt about her earlier. And now, talking like his worry that he was going to lose her eventually had always colored their time before.

In a bad way, not an inevitable-change way.

Emma wanted to believe that Kon just didn’t understand his own feelings, but she’d made the mistake of believing his unstated feelings were something they were not before.

She would never allow herself such naive optimism again.

He’d hurt her too badly. Her son had been hurt too badly for her to delude herself.

Even so, there could be no denying that Kon wanted a future with her.

Emma just didn’t know if she could trust that future.

And she wasn’t taking his word for it that his royal family supported his marrying her without meeting them first.

Emma went to shift, but Kon’s arms tightened around her.

“Let me go, stud. You’ve got to take care of the condom,” she reminded him.

They’d already taken a big enough risk.

He grunted agreement and let her move off him then, before rolling off the bed to do what he had to. He was back moments later, pulling her into his arms.

“I’m not sleeping here, Kon.”

“Why not?” he asked, sounding hurt?

Emma steeled herself against giving in. “Mickey doesn’t need to find us in the same bed.”
