Everyone nodded yes for a juice. The guys downed theirs in seconds, then announced they needed to shower up before going to breakfast and the zoo. I added that I needed a quick rinse off.

“Meet you in the lobby in maybe twenty minutes?” Bond asked. “Is that enough time?”

“I will only need about ten minutes.” I looked to Cota’s clothes. “Perhaps longer than ten minutes. I do not know what I will wear. Cota, what do I wear?”

“Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It could get a little warm.”

“You are wearing shorts. I’m not sure I have shorts.” I grimaced. “I will see what is in there. Murphy made me get outfits.”

“Speaking of Murphy, did you hear from her?” He called to me as I went into my room. “She messaged me about meeting with you tomorrow.”

“I did not hear from her, no, but I have a date tomorrow,” I teased from inside the room. “A lunch and movie date.”

“Just who is your date with? You do know you’re married. To me,” he called from the doorway. “Should I be jealous?”

“Only if you will be jealous of a James Bond.” I walked back to the doorway. “Is this good?”

I’d found a sundress Murphy had picked for the island. I’d never worn it. Cota agreed that it would be good. I found a pair of sandals that Murphy must have also picked out. With a quick look at my cell, I saw that I was almost at the twenty minutes. I hurried out to the living room to find Cota laughing at his phone.

“You going to share what is funny?” I pointed to his phone.

“I was just reading a text from Sawyer.” He put his cell away. “He was saying he’s going to be a baby for Halloween.”

“A baby? That is funny. Is he being serious?” I nodded to get to the elevator. “We don’t want to be late.”

Charlie and Bond were waiting. Charlie, the constant joker, was laid out on a bench with his hand on his forehead pretending to be famished.

“Hmm, I guess we don’t have to feed Charlie now since he perished. Bond, are you going to make it?” I teased. “Cota, you better see if the driver can help us get them to the car.”

ChapterForty-Eight

COTA

“Boys, I suggest you try to make it to the car. She seems pretty serious about breakfast.” I followed her to the front door.

“I see how it is. You make us wait then you leave us here starving,” Charlie mumbled as he walked up behind us. “I’m not feeling the love.”

“You are such a baby. Maybe he should be that for Halloween instead of Sawyer.” She climbed into the car first. “Do they make a diaper that big?”

Bond was chuckling when he climbed in last. He never said why, but I had a feeling it was about the diaper comment. The bagel shop had a line out the door. It was midweek in the city, thirty minutes before most people had to be at work.

“I’ll stand in line until it gets closer to the front.” Charlie opened the car door. “I might be too weak, but I’ll try.”

“See, I told you. He should be the baby,” Sabrina laughed. “Would it be safe for me to stand in line with him?”

“From all my reports, Yury and his crew are not in New York. I don’t see why not,” Bond said. “Come on, I’ll go with you if you’re worried.”

“I have to call Kellan. I’ll be in to order in a few minutes.” I pulled my phone out.

“I can order for you. Why don’t we go eat at the park?” She asked from the car door.

“Sounds good to me. Just get me whatever you get.” I paused. “On second thought, get me an everything bagel with cream cheese.”

“You do not trust me to get you something good?” She grinned. “Maybe a healthy shake with some wheat grass?”

“Yuk would be my answer. You won’t convince me that tastes good.” I cringed. “I’ll take a coffee, two sugar and one cream.”

She walked off with Bond, talking about health shakes or smoothies. Apparently, and not surprisingly, he drinks them as well. I called Kellan to confirm our meetings for the next day. I knew I’d see him in the evening at his place, but Kellan liked to have work stuff organized early in the day. Next, I called Murphy to make sure she was still going to get together with Sabrina while I was gone all day. Murphy didn’t answer, so I followed up with a text.
