CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

Danny

Most of thestation is asleep in the bunk area, but not me. For some reason, I can’t get my brain to shut off.

It’s thinking about Hayden.

Again.

Sighing, I get up and grab a t-shirt. Shuffling to the commons area, I put it on before glancing at my watch.

One in the morning.

So much for hoping I’d be able to get some quality sleep on this shift. Stretching my arms back and forth, I contemplate either watching TV or going for a workout when I hear a noise in the apparatus bay.

No one should be in there at this time of night, or day, whatever the case may be. If they are, they’re either looking for trouble or needing help. Immediately, my adrenaline spikes.

I’m surprised as I’ve ever been when I catch a whiff of Hayden’s perfume and the blonde tint of her hair in the moonlight. Running over to her, I grab her sides, turning her to face me. “What are you doing here?”

She giggles, seemingly the happiest I’ve ever seen her. “We went out, got a little tipsy, and then I just wanted to come and see you.”

Glancing around, I clarify we’re the only ones on the bay. “Not that I’m not happy you’re here, but what about Chief?”

She makes a noise in the back of her throat, pushing me against the wall with a firm hand. “What about him? I’m slightly sick of us hiding this from almost everyone we know. Besides.” She runs her hands up and down my chest. “I came to see you, remember?”

“To see me? I’m that special?”

“You are. The longer I waited, the more I wanted.”

He grins. “Sounds exactly how I feel every single day, Hayden.”

“One day we’ll fix it,” I promise him.

“How are we going to do that?”

“Like I said before, we’ll stop hiding our relationship.”

“You sure you want to?” He questions.

“Positive.”

While I’m happy to hear her say this, right now isn’t the best time. “Big words for someone who apparently had a good night out with friends.”

“I did.” She nods. “And now, I want to have a good time with you.” Her fingers grasp hold of my shirt, pulling her body into mine.

Fuck. My. Life.

Her lips are at my throat, running against the skin, turning me on the way only she knows how to do.

“Hay…Hay…Hayden.” I bury my fingers in her hair, palming her scalp. “Babe, you can’t do this here.

“I can’t?” She questions, letting go of my neck with a yank of her teeth. “Why not? Maybe I like a little danger.”

“It’s hot,” I agree. “But what if we’re caught?”

“What if we are? I don’t care.” She stomps her feet.

I’ve never seen this side of her and it’s highly amusing. “Anybody ever told you you’re a brat when you don’t get your way?”
