CHAPTER4

Chris

The next few days pass in a pleasant schedule. Get up in the morning in Carinna’s spare bedroom, stagger out to find she’s already made breakfast and left it sitting on the table. Then she drives me to the fairgrounds in town and I practice for a few hours, enjoying the smiles and nods of the vendors, enjoying the air that feels sweeter than it did when I was a kid. Cleaner, sweeter and happier.

All because of her. And Maddy of course. But it’s Carinna that has me dreaming at night. Dreaming of touching her, making her mine. Feeling her backroad of curves pressed against me. The softness of her skin under my tongue. I can feel and taste it all in my dreams like it happened seconds ago. Even though it’s actually been days.

My dick has been hard since I saw her again. And even though I could give myself some relief. I’m not going to.

I haven’t been a saint since I left home but now that I know I have actual real feelings for Carinna, nothing is going to do but her.

So I’m damn surprised when one week into living together, she comes out dressed up in a pair of dark skinny jeans and an emerald green t-shirt that shows off her amazing rack. A rack that I want to bury my face in for the next fifty damn years.

Maddy and I are watching a movie and eating some popcorn while Carinna works, but it doesn’t seem like that’s all she’s got planned and all of a sudden I’m seconds from losing my mind.

“Are you going out with someone tonight?” I ask, trying to keep my cool. Struggling to keep from blowing up like a nuclear reactor melting down.

Maddy’s head swivels like she knows something’s up but she doesn’t say anything when her mother pulls on a fitted leather jacket that skims her damn boobs like a lover’s caress.

“Not really. Some of my group are meeting at a bar. We’re just gonna have a few drinks and dance a little bit. Unwind from a long week.” Her eyes skate away from me uncomfortably and I can tell she’s talking about me. She needs to get some space from me.

That fucking hurts. But I get what’s happening. She’s running. She’s scared to feel what she’s feeling. Hell, so am I. But I’m not going anywhere.

“Is Mrs. Murphy going to come and watch me again?” Maddy asks and my head swings around to catch her answer.

“No, since Chris is here I think you’ll be alright.” Then she darts out the door.

But I’m not letting her pull my strings like this.

I grin at Maddy. “Do you know Mrs. Murphy’s number? And is there a number for a taxi or something in this town?”

“There’s an Uber for when you drink too much. Some of mom’s friends use them sometimes.”

“They don’t do this very often, do they?”

“Nope.” She shakes her head. “Mom goes out for book club but not usually to the bar.”

That’s about what I expect. She’s a good mom. A good woman. A damn fine woman that deserves to be loved like she’s an angel. Like I want to worship her. Like she’s a goddess made just for me.

“Can you call Mrs. Murphy while I arrange for that Uber?”

She nods and there’s a wicked twinkle in her eyes that I’ve seen in my own. “You’re gonna make her mad, you know?”

I nod my head and smile wryly. “I know. But I can’t let her go off by herself. I need to make sure she’s alright.”

She shrugs and turns the movie back on, throwing some popcorn in her mouth. “Your funeral, dude.”

“I’m dad not dude.”

Her crystal blue eyes turn serious. “I haven’t decided that yet.”

“You let me know.”

“I will. But make sure you’re careful around mom. She’s gonna give it to you with both barrels.”

“Probably true. Do yourself a favor and don’t fall in love with a boy. It’s nothing but trouble.”

Her nose crinkles and she flashes me a disgusted look, gagging. “Don’t make me sick! Ugh! As if! Guys are gross.”
