“Yes, baby, you did.”

“I haven’t told you about the damage that might have been done.”

His brows snapped together. Oh God, the thought of her going through any more infuriated him. “What?”

“There’s a chance I might not be able to have babies.”

He waited. “And?”

She scowled up at him. “You’ve always talked about a family. You might not get that if you stay with me because I’m damaged.”

“For one thing, stop saying that. You’re not damaged. Secondly, who told you that you might not be able to have children?”

“The doctor.”

“The American one?”

She shook her head. “No, one of the German ones.”

“I thought you said you couldn’t understand them,” Cullen said.

“We couldn’t, but this was the one who could speak some English.”

“Where was your brother?”

She shrugged. “I think he went for a sandwich.”

“So, he didn’t hear any of the conversations?”

She shook her head.

“Did you tell him about it?”

She shook her head again.

Cullen gritted his teeth in frustration. “Can you remember exactly what he said?”

“The doctor said no babies for me. I asked him why and he said something that sounded like forever and sick.”

“Why didn’t you tell Rhys?”

“Because he’d already dealt with so much, I didn’t want to put any more on his shoulders to worry about.”

“Will you do me a favor?” he asked her.

“Yes. Of course.”

“I want to make an appointment with a doctor for you. I want to get you checked out, but, in the meantime, I want you to put this out of your head.”

“How?”

“All you have to do, baby, is what your daddy tells you to. Right?” he asked.

She bit her lower lip and nodded.

“Good. Now, let’s talk about you running away.”

Her mouth fell open. “I’m not a child, Cullen. I did not run away. I went to visit a friend.”
