“Ooh la la, a man who can cook? Be still, my heart!” she exclaims.

“Yeah, apparently his roommate’s got plans or something tonight, so we’ll have the place to ourselves.”

“Ah,” she smirks knowingly, “Does this mean you’re finally going to stop being such a prude with him?”

“I’m not a prude!” I protest, “I’m just taking things at my own pace.”

“A pace that would make a snail yawn,” she retorts.

“I know, okay?” I snap, then sigh, “I know, it’s just…I’ve only ever been with one guy before, Paige.”

Her teasing demeanor softens. “I know, babes, but it’s been a long time. You deserve a little fun, a little happiness.”

“Doesn’t mean it doesn’t scare the hell out of me,” I admit.

“I know. I get it. Shit, with how long it’s been, you might as well be losing your virginity all over again,” Paige quips.

I snort and laugh. “I don’t think that’s how it works, you don’t just get a sequel to your virginity.”

She shrugs. “Eh, whatever.”

“But to answer your question… I think tonight might be the night, yeah. Things have just been going so well, and it’s not like I don’t want to. I’ve wanted to jump his bones since I first laid eyes on him, I’m only human.”

Paige laughs. “No kidding.”

“And it seems like fate’s trying to tell me this is my moment, right?” I tell her, “I’ll already be at his place, we’ll have it all to ourselves…”

“Just out of curiosity, does his roommate happen to also be a drop-dead gorgeous single guy?”

“I know he lives with another guy, but that’s all I know about him, actually,” I said, “But maybe I can find out for you,” I wiggle my eyebrows at her playfully.

“Yes, please!”

I’m laughing, but it does make me think a little bit. “I’m not sure Elliot gets along with him,” I muse aloud, “I mean, you’d think with two guys living together, he’d have some stories about his roommate, but I don’t think he’s said anything about him.”

I couldn’t even call to mind the guy’s name. It’s possible that Elliot had mentioned it in passing and I’d just forgotten, but I didn’t think that was the case.

“Well, if he really hated the guy, you’d probably have heard something about that,” Paige points out.

“True,” I concede, “Maybe they just don’t really interact.”

It’s hard to imagine sharing a house with a stranger like that, but to each their own, I suppose. I glance at the time and my heart starts beating a little faster. “Hey, I’d better get going, I’ve gotta get over there.”

“Good luck!” Paige squeals, “And if you get any good info for me about the roommate…”

“I’ll pass it along,” I promise.

We bid each other goodbye and I hang up. I hastily throw on a pair of shoes and grab my purse before heading out to my car.

I’ve been over to Elliot’s place briefly once before, but we’d just been stopping by to grab his forgotten wallet. He’d shown me around the place a little, but his roommate had been in his room with the door closed, so I hadn’t met the guy.

From what little I have gleaned, the guy seems kind of reclusive and introverted, which probably wouldn’t be a great fit for bubbly, social Paige, but who knows? They say opposites attract and whatnot.

I pull up and park and make my way to his front door. Just as my knuckles are brushing the surface for my first knock, it suddenly disappears out from under them and I nearly end up knocking on Elliot’s chest.

“Hi,” I laugh, tugging my hand back, “You startled me.”

“Sorry,” he laughs, bending down to kiss me.
