“Yeah…last night.”
I can’t tell what he’s feeling. “Are…are we okay?” I ask hesitantly.
He sits up, taking my face between his hands and looking deep into my eyes. “We’re just fine, baby,” he assures me, planting a kiss on my lips, “I promise.”
A wave of relief washes over me. The words are completely sincere, and Brendon’s a pretty terrible liar.
“Good,” I sigh, “What about you, areyouokay?”
“I’m…confused,” he admits, “And I’m still kind of trying to process it all, but yeah, I think I’m okay. What about you?”
“I’m great,” I admit, “Last night was…wow. I mean, just…wow.”
He laughs. “Yeah, I can’t argue with you there.”
“I guess I’m just not sure what happens next,” I say, “I mean, in a few days we’re going home and all, but what about in the meantime?”
“I don’t know,” he sighs, “I’ve been wondering about that, too. I mean, it’s not like it’s a tiny resort or anything, if we really wanted to avoid running into him until we leave, we probably could. But…”
“But you don’t want to?” I suggest, because I feel exactly the same way.
He nods.
“We could try and see him again,” I proposed, “Hang out with him some more.”
Whether or not “hanging out” meant sleeping with him again, I wasn’t quite sure, although if the opportunity arose, I doubted I’d pass it up.
It was unlikely that we’d see him today, he had another day of back-to-back classes, but we’d casually thrown out the possibility of getting together again tomorrow before we left this morning.
“Yeah, hopefully,” Brendon nods, “But I guess we’ll just kind of have to wait and see.”
“Can I ask you something?” I blurt out before I can stop myself.
“Of course, baby, anything.”
“Do you think you’d ever want to do it again? If we found someone back home or something?”
Interestingly enough, the prospect doesn’t exactly appeal to me. I can’t fathom us ever finding another guy like Chip, who we both click with so well on every conceivable level.
I hadn’t slept with Chip because I wanted a threesome. I slept with him because I likedhim.
Brendon is quiet for a long moment. “I can’t say I’d never do it again, because honestly, I didn’t think I ever would to begin with,” he says finally, “But would I want to do it again with someone else? No, I don’t think so.”
I smile wistfully. “There’s something kind of special about him, isn’t there?”
He looks at me and nods, sighing. “Yeah. There is.”
I slide my arms around him and bury my face in his chest. “Well, whatever happens next, we can face it together, right?”
He leans down and kisses the top of my head. “Always, baby. Always.”
Chapter Sixteen
Brendon
Later that same night, Hazel and I get back to our room after dinner and we’re settling in to watch a movie when a knock sounds at the door.
Hazel’s brow furrows. “Who could that be?”
