Epilogue

There’snothinglikebeing woken up by being ninja kicked in the bladder by your unborn child, who is playing with their father.
Garrett loves playing with our little one now that she’s more responsive to him. She’ll stick out her foot against the side of my stomach, and he’ll tickle it, and she will jerk it away, hitting whatever organ is in her way.
This is what I woke up to this morning. Garrett is leaning over my large stomach with a huge smile on his face, playing with our little girl and talking to her about his plans for the ranch today. It’s not like she has any clue what moving the cows to the north pasture really means.
"Now you've done it. You have gone and woken up your momma. I told you she needed her sleep today." He says, before kissing my belly, and then turning his eyes to me.
"Good morning, my beautiful wife." He greets me like he does every morning. I joke with him for a bit, but he says it’s to remind me that I'm his. "Good morning, my husband." I stretch a bit and give him a kiss, before heading to the bathroom, as I get ninja kicked again.
This cabin he rented for the weekend may be out of the way and near the mountains, but it has a bathroom to rival a luxury hotel. Heck, the toilet seat has a warmer, which is pretty nice first thing in the morning.
When I walk back out to the bedroom, there’s a large gift in the center of the bed, but Garrett is nowhere to be found. I open the box, and inside, I find the bedding I wanted for our little girl.
We had been arguing for a week over which bedding, because he didn't want pink, but I did. I just laugh, because if I know my husband, this was planned from the start, and he was always going to give in.
I run my hand over the soft blanket, before heading to the rest of the cabin in search of Garrett, where I find him in the kitchen making breakfast. I walk up behind him and hug him as close as my belly will allow anyway, kissing his shoulder.
He turns and wraps one around mine and smiles. "Go sit down. I’ll bring you some orange juice."
I do as he asks and stare out of the window at the beautiful mountain views. I have always loved The Smoky Mountains, and this was the perfect spot for a babymoon, as his parents are calling it. They are at home with our son and loving having all his attention to themselves right now.
After we got married, it wasn't long, before I was more interested in the ranch than my job. After talking it over with not only Garrett, but Geo, Becca, and my dad, and Violet had an opinion too, I finally put in my notice, left my job, and became a full-time ranch wife.
Working alongside Garrett on the ranch has been everything we always dreamed it would be, and our food costs went down because I was able to menu plan and head into Jasper to shop sales and bulk buy.
The first month, when I spent half of what the guys had been, they thought we'd run out of food, but I was able to get more by stopping at the local grocery store every few days.
Thinking back on Geo's shock, still makes me laugh.
"What’s so funny over there?" Garrett asks.
I guess I was laughing at the memory.
"Nothing much. Just thinking about, when I first moved into the ranch."
"I have a confession to make." He sits down with me and places my plate in front of me.
"Oh, yeah?"
"This isn't just a babymoon, as my mom put it."
I stop and think. It's not either of our birthdays, and it's not our anniversary, so I'm not sure what this weekend is.
"What is it?"
"This is the weekend I had planned to propose to you per the pact we made."
Holy shit. That is this year, isn't it? I had completely forgotten about it.
"I'm glad we didn't wait." I smile at him.
"Me too. Being married to you has been the best thing to ever happen to me. Our kids have made me happier than I ever thought possible, and you make me happier than I ever dreamed. This life we have is what I always pictured. I just didn't think we'd be able to start it so soon." He pulls me onto his lap.
