"What I mean is you aren't moving in with your dad. I want you to move in here with me."
"You do?" I ask startled.
"Of course, I do. I want to see you every day. And to know you are here just a few feet away, and that I can stop in for a kiss any time I want," he smirks.
"I have a feeling you’ll be stopping in for more than a kiss."
He shrugs, but then takes my hand in his again and pulls me towards him and onto his lap. I settle there as gingerly as I can, but he still cringes from the movement.
“Once I was feeling better, I was planning this whole big thing. It was going to be over the top and magical, maybe even under the stars, but I don't think I can wait that long. I want to marry you, baby girl, and I don't want to wait on our pact to do it. I want to marry you now, run the ranch with you, and have kids with you now. Don't make me wait. Will you marry me?"
Is he kidding? I want nothing more, but I really thought we were moving too fast. I should have known this is my Garrett, and we have always been on the same wavelength, even when we were mad at each other.
"Of course, I'll marry you." I throw my arms around his neck and hug him tight.
He lets out a low groan, and I pull back. "I'm sorry."
"I'm not." He leans in and kisses me softly. "I have a ring, but it's not here yet. But then again, I hadn't planned to ask you tonight."
"I don't even need a ring. I just need you."
It's then his parents walk in the door, and the house comes to life. The life I pictured, but never thought would be mine, is right here at my fingertips.
Certainly, never thought I'd get it this way.
