Back arching, I split in two, and Santiago followed, splitting right along with me. We held each other through it, putting one another back together.

Tangled in the middle of my bed, the earth seemed to turn a little slower, and the wrongs of the world seemed to lessen. In the arms of the man who came up with endless ways to describe the green of my eyes, who saw me the way I saw myself, who’d maybe discovered sides of me I’d never known, I was centered and my heart beat steady.

He brushed a strand of sweaty hair off my forehead and blew on my face to cool me down. Eyes closed, I smiled, my soul glowing at the simple care.

“You’re pretty.”

My eyes opened, alighting on the beautiful, imperfect man hovering over me. “Thank you. I love you.”

He placed a gentle kiss on the tip of my nose. “I love you too.”

“I like you a whole lot.”

He grinned. “I like you a whole lot too.”

“This is going to be so good, isn’t it?”

He took his time answering, letting his deep, dark eyes trail over every inch of me he wasn’t covering with his body.

When he finally answered, the truth in his words was so clear, it was like a bell tolling on a bright, blue morning.

“Yeah, baby girl. It is. It’s going to be the best.”

The very best.
