Present time

“I got this pendant made to honor her.” I touched my necklace. “In a weird way, it feels like she is still with me. So, I never take it off.”

I had managed to get through the whole thing without completely breaking down. Grayson had some unshed tears, but he had kept it together as well.

“I’m so sorry you had to go through that alone.” He grabbed both my hands. “I wish you had told me about Mia sooner. But I realize now that, back then, I probably wouldn’t have listened. I’m so sorry for not thinking about you when I was supposed to.”

I shrugged. “It’s fine. The time has passed, and we’ve moved forward.”

“Yeah, we moved forward.” Grayson’s eyes bore into mine.

Time stood still for a moment, as I got lost in his trance. I didn’t know who moved first but suddenly our faces started inching closer to one another. We were so close I could feel his hot breath fanning my face.

All I needed to do was lean forward and our lips would touch.
