Chapter 19 - Grayson: Tell Me

What the hell was I doing? I needed to stop, but I found myself pulling her in closer and holding her tighter to my body. I ran my tongue along her bottom lip, but she refused me. The little tease.

I walked her backward until her back hit the wall. I grabbed her thighs and lifted her so she could circle her legs around my waist. Her fingers threaded through my strands. I bit down on her lower lip, and she gasped. I took that opportunity to plunge my tongue into her mouth and taste her.

She tasted like wine and sweetness. It was addictive and I wanted more of it.

I removed my lips from hers and started peppering her skin with hot sloppy kisses. I moved down her neck, kissing and sucking her porcelain skin. I settled down on her sweet spot and bit down on it gently.

I was rewarded with moans of pleasure.

“Grayson,” she breathed into my ear. Her hot breath fanned my skin making the blood rush down to my groin even more.

I pushed my hard-on against her sex, and I released my hold on her skin momentarily to let out a cry of pleasure. I wanted to be inside of her now. I needed to be inside of her.

“I need you,” I moaned against her skin.

Then, like a bucket of cold water washed over her, I felt her back go rigid and her hands stop roaming in my hair.

“Stop.” Her voice was barely above a gentle whisper. “Grayson, stop.”

This time her voice came out more forceful and direct. My movements stilled and the sex-filled haze I had been under the influence of slowly began to fade.

“Put me down.” Her voice came out low, and I did as she asked.

I took a few steps back in complete and utter shock. What the hell had I just done? Why had I kissed her like that? That had not been a part of the plan, and now I had just fucked things up even more.

“What was that, Grayson?” She looked at me in utter shock.

I wished I knew. I didn’t know what had come over me. I didn’t know why I had even followed her into the bathroom.

“You seemed to have a lot to say not long ago. Now you are suddenly tongue-tied?” Her eyes bore into mine, and it took everything in me not to look away. I held her gaze, watching as a range of emotion crossed her eyes.

Confusion, hurt, anger, uncertainty and the last one was one I could not figure out.

“Speak, dammit!”

“I’m sorry. That shouldn’t have happened.” I cleared my throat. “I shouldn’t have touched you like that.”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you follow me in here? Why did you get mad over Damien? Why did you kiss me, Grayson?” She crossed her arms over her chest. “You tell me that it is for the best we stay out of each other's way and then you come looking for me at the cabin. We have sex and then you say it can never happen again and then you ice me out. I take it, and I move forward with life. Then you come in here and kiss me like you want to bend me over the damn counters. Make it make sense to me, Grayson.”

The truth was that it didn’t make sense.

“It was a mistake.”

She flinched a little when I said the word mistake. “A mistake? Taking the wrong turn to work is a mistake. Following someone you hate into the bathroom is not a mistake.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say, Jade.”

“How about a fucking explanation, Grayson? You are so damn hot and cold. You are hot and heavy for me one minute, and then you look at me like you can’t stand the very sight of me.”

Frustrated, I ran a hand through my hair. “You make me go crazy. You make me behave in a way I normally wouldn’t behave.”

“I don’t make you do anything, Grayson.”
