“I know that,” he spat. “I’m just not sure what the hell to do about any of this.” He ran his hand through his unruly hair and made it stand on end. He felt as though he was losing his mind when it came to figuring things out with Kai. “Tell me what I should do, Harlow.” Yeah, he was begging his friend for help with a girl, and sure, that made him sound like a middle schooler, but this was uncharted territory for him.

“I can’t tell you what you should do, Taz. Just follow your heart. If you want her, go out there and get her. But don’t let her go on this date if that’s your plan,” Harlow said.

Taz nodded. “Can you keep an eye on the kitchen for a few minutes?” he asked.

“Sure, I’ll have Ryker come back and man the grill. He can make a mean burger,” Harlow said. “Just don’t break my friend’s heart, Taz,” she insisted.

“I don’t plan on it,” Taz said. He pulled off his apron and went out to the bar, walking straight over to Kai without hesitation. He was either going to get the girl or be shot down by her, but he had to try.

“Taz,” Kai whispered, looking up at him. He stood over their table and from the look on her date’s face, he wasn’t too happy about the interruption.

“Hey, Kai,” he breathed. “Can I talk to you for a minute, in private?” She looked over at her date and he shrugged. “It’s important work stuff,” Taz lied. The guy finally shrugged and nodded.

“I’ll be quick,” she promised her date. Kai slid out of the chair and stood next to Taz. “This better be good,” she spat. He didn’t answer her; just took her hand into his own and pulled her back to the kitchen. Taz knew that she was having trouble keeping up, but he didn’t care. The faster he got her out of there, the quicker he could tell her how he felt about her before he lost his nerve.

When he pulled her through the kitchen and out of the back door of the bar, she practically dug her heels in, protesting the whole time. “Where are you taking me?” she asked.

“Someplace where we can have a little chat,” he said back over his shoulder. He didn’t stop until he got to his pick-up truck. He opened the door and practically lifted her into the passenger seat, shutting the door and locking it behind himself. There was no way that he’d let her escape his truck before he got his chance with her. Kai pushed and tugged the door as if trying to get out, and he just smiled at the little vixen, shaking his head as he rounded the back of the truck and got into the driver’s seat.

“What the hell is this?” she hissed. “You can’t keep me in here against my will.”

“I’m not trying to make you do anything that you don’t want to, Kai,” Taz whispered. “I just want to talk to you. Can you give me just a few minutes and then, if you want, I’ll unlock the truck and you can go back to your date.”

“Fine,” she spat, crossing her arms over her chest. It was the closest thing he’d get to her agreement. “Talk so that I can go back to my dinner with Gabe.” Of course, that douche was named Gabe. He looked like a preppy college boy—not at all Kai’s type. He was her type, and now, he just needed to remind her of that.

“What are you doing with him?” Taz asked.

“I’m on a date with him—that’s what I’m doing, Taz,” she insisted.

“Not what I mean, honey,” he said. “You are with a guy who’s the total opposite of me. I just didn’t think that you would be into preppy college boys,” he insisted.

“What do you want me to say, Taz?” she asked. “You don’t want me, so maybe I should try the preppy college boy. Maybe he’ll want to keep me around after he uses me.”

“Is that how you feel about what happened between us?” he asked. “You think that I used you?”

“Yes,” she said, “and, that you don’t want me.”

“Baby,” he said. Taz reached across the center console and pulled her hand over to his lap. “Does this feel like I don’t want you?” he asked. He rested her hand on his cock, loving the way that she ran her fingers over the outline of his erection.

“If you want me, why do you keep pushing me away?” she asked. “We have sex and then you tell me that I mean nothing to you and that it won’t happen again.”

“Yet, it keeps happening,” he breathed. “I can’t seem to stop thinking about you, Kai. I don’t date and I definitely don’t do relationships, yet with you, I find myself wanting to do both.”

“You want to date me?” she asked. He wanted to fucking consume her, but they would get to that later. Right now, he just needed to convince her to dump the preppy college boy and give him a chance to prove that he meant everything that he was saying to her.

“I want you, Kai—all of you. I want to date you and have you in my bed every night.”

“That sounds a lot like a relationship, Taz,” she teased.

He shrugged, “I guess I want a relationship with you, Kai, and that confuses the hell out of me. I’m like a fish out of water here. I don’t know how to make this happen or what to do next.”

“I think that I can help with that,” she said. Kai climbed over the console to straddle his lap and he ran his hands up under her skirt to palm her curvy ass. “The first thing we’ll need to work on is our communication, Taz. If you’re worried about what to do next, all you have to do is ask me. We can figure this out together,” she offered.

“I’d like that,” he breathed against her lips. Kai wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him like a starving woman. He liked the way that she seemed desperate to have him. He felt the same way about her.

“Kai,” he breathed. “I need you.”

“I need you too,” she said. Kai reached between their bodies and undid his zipper, letting his cock spring free as he tugged her panties to the side. He didn’t bother to make sure that she was ready. Taz could feel the heat between her legs.
