“Wait till you see the cake.”

As we entered underneath the tent, I saw a few of the others from school. My main focus though was on the twins that were standing in front of a table. My mouth opened as I realized exactly what they meant.

“How in the heck is that a cake?” I asked, feeling shocked.

It was stunning, like four tiers high in a gold color that was almost cut open on the side to show off an entire crystalized center in pink, gold, and white. I couldn’t stop looking at it, it was literally beautiful. I smiled as Ledger helped me cut the cake and I was able to forget what Atlas and Marco had been worried about. For a time at least.

It wasn’t until about an hour later, as I was talking to Sai, that I realized the two of them and Henry were absent. Bella let out a meow as I decided this was a better time than ever to go put her upstairs and see if they were okay. I lifted Bella up and out of her bag and walked towards the stairs, easily making my way to my room.

Placing her on the bed, I jumped slightly as the door shut. A trickle of fear went up my spine as I turned immediately, not liking my back exposed.

“Crap,” I reared back, unable to control the curse that came out of my mouth. Lorn lounged against the wall looking every bit of the jerk as he had always been.

“Maya,” he stated with a nasty grin, “figured you would come up here eventually.”

I swallowed nervously as Bella hissed, my hand curling around her gently as I tried to keep her calm. “Lorn, what are you doing here?” My stomach was hurting as I tried to not panic but honestly the guy reminded me a lot of Jed. And he was right, it was easier to be brave when the boys were around. He was such a big guy and it scared the crap out of me.

“Do you realize what fucking happened when Marco called my father about your stupid rumor shit?” he growled, moving forward in an aggressive manner. I pulled Bella against my chest protectively as I kept my ground refusing to be afraid of him.

Even if I was. He wouldn’t see it.

“Then you shouldn’t spread rumors,” I snarled slightly as he reached me, his eyes dark and angry.

“You’re turning out to be a real bitch, Maya,” I cried out as he suddenly gripped my hair and I dropped Bella, his hand knocking her to the side. I tried to find where she was but his hand grew tighter, twisting and exposing my neck. I put a hand out trying to push away but he easily stopped my movement.

“Let’s be really clear what the fuck is going to happen here, okay?” he growled as I whimpered, feeling that fluttering sensation in my chest grow. Heat fused throughout my limbs as something tried to bubble up.

“Screw you,” I growled, feeling my temper spike. I heard Bella meow louder and I tried to move away from him but all it got me was being slammed against my bed, panic surfacing fresh. I kicked him, his growl sounding as my heel collided with his thigh but all it got me was him flipping me on my stomach. I let out a cry as his one hand wrenched my hair and the other tightened on my neck.

I felt the fight in me start to fade as memories from the night I died resurfaced. I gasped out in panic as his words became muted and I felt tears fill my eyes. My heart was running a million miles an hour and dizziness started to overtake me.

Then a sound from my chest broke out that was high pitched and sounded like a cry. The room turned black as suddenly the pressure from my neck was released, oxygen I hadn’t even realized I was losing flooded back in. I sagged against the bed fully. Bella’s fur brushed my face as I heard yelling in the room, someone cried out as a crash sounded.

That was right about when I passed out, my hand wrapping around Bella gently. I really hoped she wasn’t hurt.
