“Are you going to have fun at the party tomorrow night?”
“I always have fun, maybe just not the same way as the rest of you.”
“You are so strange, Finley. You join a sorority and do anything and everything for your sisters, you are the sounding board for everyone that needs someone to talk to, and yet we know nothing about you. When we have huge parties, you sit in the corner and people watch, maybe having a drink or two, but I have never seen you so much as buzzed. I don't know that I have ever met anyone like you before.” Her words might have been hurtful if she didn't say them with a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes that tells me she is almost proud of me.
“I like to keep people on their toes.”
“You are something else.” She shakes her head and keeps eating.
I watch the door to the back until the hostess and a different waitress come out of it, they both giggle and look at Bell like they are going to climb into his lap and dry hump him right here in the diner. I try not to watch but I almost can’t help myself, she is shameless in her flirting.
I tell myself that he isn’t mine, and even if he was, how would she know, but it doesn’t help. A part of me knows that he is mine, and if I were here alone, I might have walked over there and made it obvious.
“We better get going. We have to pick that stuff up and be back in time for the house meeting. What's that about anyway?” The message sent out was vague and didn't give anything away.
I told them that Zoe wanted to talk to everyone before the party tomorrow. I made sure to state that it was mandatory so that none of the girls would think that they could skip it to go on a date or out for drinks with their friends, there are a lot of us and it's not like we take a roll call before we start our meetings.
“You will see when we get home, there is no sense in listening to it twice.”
After paying we get up to leave, Bell's eyes track my movements even though his waitress is standing right beside him, when she puts her hand on his arm to get his attention I almost trip over my own feet. “Hey, hold on a second, I need to send out a text message and I cannot walk on my own two feet, let alone do it while texting.”
I turn so that I am facing the inside of the diner and once again I am thankful that Raven has her back to most of the room.
“This shouldn't take long, it's about the alcohol for tomorrow.”
“Make it clear, or I will.”
Her hand is still on his arm when he pulls out his phone and chuckles at the screen.
“I would love to see that.”
“No, you wouldn't. There would be blood and tears, the cops would be called, and then my father would find out.”
“What is happening?”
Because Bell is here alone the other two that are in the group chat have no idea what in the hell we are talking about.
“GET HER HAND OFF OF YOU!”
“OOOOO, Bell is getting yelled at.”
“Pyro, grow up, she's going to hurt someone if he isn't careful.”
Pyro and Scar are probably having a field day with this.
Bell stands up and the waitress drops her hand then he steps up close to her and starts to whisper in her ear. My fingers are flying across the keyboard so fast that it shouldn't be possible and right before I hit send the girl pulls back looking terrified, her face pales, and when Bell steps away he has an evil grin on his lips.
“Okay, we can go.”
As soon as I sit in the passenger seat my phone pings again.
“You may have ignored us for months but it's clear that we are under your skin. Only someone jealous would threaten to hurt a perfectly innocent waitress because she didn't know that the man she put her hand on, had an Ol’ lady.”
I try not to seethe at the words Ol’ lady but I don't think that I am successful, Raven doesn't ask.
After picking up the things from the store we rush back to the house so that we aren't late for the meeting. Most of the sisters are already gathered in the main room, when we come in carrying some of the bags, a few of them go back out to the car and grab the rest of the things from the trunk.
After everything is put away, we meet back in the office room, Zoe is already standing at the podium.
