“IUD. I have … for hormonal purposes …” This. This info exchange was why she wasn’t looking forward to being with someone new. Jordan made it easy, though, comfortable, unawkward.

“Good. But what about the rest? You know I could just continue—”

“Can I trust you?” she cut in, knowing he would understand. She had no idea how many partners he’d had and when, but until now, he hadn’t given her a reason not to trust him.

“Yes.”

She reached between them and smoothed her palm over him, up and down, inducing a groan from deep in his throat. She watched his eyes inflame as she brought him to her entrance.

Jordan hooked her thigh high over his waist and used it as a lever to sink deep into her in a rough thrust.

God. She exhaled. That was exactly what she needed. He was stretching her, filling her.

He threaded his fingers with hers, pinned their joint hands over her head, and caught her mouth in a deep kiss. He thrust deeper and harder, making her gasp and moan against his mouth, building a helix of fire in her.

Eyes locked on hers, he reached between them with his free hand and touched her, adding to the friction inside her, until she broke into a million shiny pieces under him, against him, reaching high, high above.

She tried to muffle the sounds that emanated from her, but Jordan growled without taking his eyes off her, “No, I want to see you and hear you. Let me hear you come.”

That launched her higher, and as if from a distance, she heard him groan as she dragged him up there with her, their gazes clinging to each other as much as their bodies were.

Detonation, explosion, combustion. It was all that and more. She was pretty sure that, although the windows were shut, the sounds that Jordan emitted out of her were heard in the street. Whether in speech or otherwise, she just couldn’t be quiet with this man.

Lying wasted next to him, Hope didn’t care, at least for the time being, that the light was on and that he could see all the stretch marks, freckles, untucked tummy, breasts, and all.

He didn’t seem to mind any of it, either. Because, as soon as he caught his breath, Jordan rolled on his side and trailed his gaze all over her.

She would have blushed if there was any breath left in her.

He then leaned his forehead against her temple and let his hand trail the same path his eyes had taken over her body. Her skin was still sensitive, and she shuddered.

“Is this what you didn’t want me to see?” he whispered, his mouth hovering at the side of hers.

She nodded but barely.

“You’re beautiful, Hope. Just as you are. Please don’t ever think any differently.” He then scooped her up in his arms and pulled her to lie on top of him as he rolled to lie on his back.

She breathed in the skin of his neck and closed her eyes, feeling the thump of his heart under her palm. While she didn’t regret doing what she had done, Hope knew that things had developed way beyond Roni’s advice. She knew for a certainty that it wasn’t only her body that he had just made his. It was her heart, too.

Maybe she could hold on to him a little longer, until the morning, until he would go back to a life that was thousands of physical and metaphorical miles from her.
