Joy shrugged dismissively. “Oh well, none of that matters to me. I don’t get involved with coworkers or any of the office drama that goes along with it.”

Cocking her head, Vicki smiled at Joy’s response. “That may be for the best because you’ll be spending a lot of time together. Let’s introduce you to the rest of the team here.”

Vicki showed Joy her new office, where they completed all the requisite paperwork before joining everyone for a catered company lunch in the main meeting room. To Joy’s surprise, Adam made a beeline directly to her.

“Sorry I didn’t have time to stop and chat earlier. I’m Adam, Adam Caldwell. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Joy Roberson, new Operations Officer. Nice to meet you. Vicki says you’re a pilot?” she replied, shaking his hand. It didn’t go unnoticed that his hand was so much larger than hers ... firm and strong.

Adam took a seat across from her. “Yep. I fly the remote deliveries.”

“Remote deliveries?”

“We have customers scattered everywhere, and more often than not, the best way to deliver supplies is by air. I land on lakes, ice, and just about any place that can be used as a runway. But I also fly to some of the small little towns who need regular supplies brought in.”

“I’m sure I’ll learn more about it soon enough.”

“Anytime you want to go along on one of my trips, just let me know. I’d be more than happy for you to come with me.”

Joy nearly choked on her food, unsure if he meant the double entendre or if her mind was subconsciously affected by the sexiness overflowing from the hunk seated across from her. “I’ll keep it in mind.” She shook it off, certain she was imagining things.

“Has Vicki helped you find a place yet?”

“As a matter of fact, she’s taking me out after lunch. She told me the company built some homes on the edge of town.”

“Ah, Ted and Pete’s project. They got a great deal on complete log cabins that were built in British Columbia, disassembled, and then they shipped them here. I spent a lot of time rebuilding them. So, if you want my opinion, choose 427 Spruce. Only because it was the last one we built, and by then, I was an expert with plumbing and electricity. Besides, it has the best views if you ask me.”

“Good to know. I feel sorry for whoever got stuck with the first one.”

“Me too!” he replied, laughing.

As promised, she spent the remainder of the afternoon with Vicki, searching for her new home.

“The company just finished building these five homes on the slope.”

“Nice views from here. I can see why they chose this area.”

“It’s not exactly a subdivision. Three of the larger homes have been sold to families. But you’re in luck. The other two smaller homes are available for rentals.”

Joy instantly remembered Adam’s advice. “How about we start with 427. It looks nice.”

After touring the cozy two-bedroom cabin, Joy had no interest in the other one. The view of the coast was amazing, just like Adam had told her.

“I think this will be perfect. Now I’m ready to get to work.”
