“You don’t have to go,” Joy protested.

“I know, but I really don’t want to be late. Let me know if you need anything.” She walked out the door.

“That was weird ... even for Gerri,” Joy said.

“Yeah. I have to admit, it was. Are you hungry, doll?” Adam asked.

“I’m starving. What did you order?” she asked.

“A bit of everything and probably enough to feed an army.” Adam pulled cartons and boxes out of several plastic bags and arranged the items on the island.

“I’ll grab some plates and silverware,” Joy said, brushing past him.

His cock hardened the second her skin touched his. It was the first time he’d been even remotely interested in sex since she had left Polar Point. He had to tamp it down. There was no way she was going to be even remotely interested in sex after everything she had just been through, let alone with him.

“You weren’t kidding when you said you bought enough for an army.” Joy laughed.

“Help yourself. I wasn’t sure what you would want, so I got a little of everything.” Honestly, all he wanted was to make sure she got the nourishment she needed.

Joy swayed on her feet. “I’m a little dizzy.”

Adam quickly grabbed her and scooped her up off her feet. “You probably need to get some food into you. When was the last time you ate?” he asked, setting her on the couch.

“I don’t remember when, but he fed me a burger and fries at some point.”

“Tell me what you want, and I’ll make your plate for you.”

“Anything, I really don’t care. It all looks so good.” Her stomach growled, highlighting the point that she needed to eat.

“You sit tight. I’ll be right back,” he ordered.

“Promise.” She smiled up and him.

Well, damn, if that sweet smile didn’t just melt his heart and make his fucking dick twitch.

He threw a little bit of everything on a plate and grabbed a fork, napkins, and a couple sodas, and headed back to the living room.

“Here you go.” He set the drinks on the table and handed Joy the plate.

“Mmm. This looks so good, but I’m never going to eat this much.”

“That’s okay. Eat what you want, and if you do want more of something, there’s plenty. Do you want a cup of ice for your drink?” he asked.

“That would be great. Thank you.”

Joy watchedas Adam headed back to the kitchen to get her a glass and ice for her soda. The nervousness and fear she had felt earlier vanished. She chalked it up to her conversation with Gerri.

The discussion ran through her mind again, and she thought about the questions Gerri had asked. They had been reasonable questions. And they needed answers. Joy had to figure it out. Maybe instead of running, she needed to sit and have a real conversation with Adam about how she felt regarding the whole situation.

“Is everything okay?” Adam asked.

“I don't know, honestly. I was just thinking about some of the things I talked to Gerri about.”

“I’m here if you want to talk. I don’t want you to feel like you can’t talk to me about something. After all, I'm still me, and you are still you. We've never had a problem when it came to talking. Well, we never used to,” Adam said.

“True. Why don't you grab a plate, and we'll talk while we eat?” Joy suggested.
