I chuckle. “Oh, definitely. You caught me.”

He winks at me and takes a sip. “Meelz, is there even alcohol in that?”

“Yes!”

He raises his brows, and my bottom lip juts out.

“There is!” I tell him. “I put like half an ounce in there.”

“That sounds more like it.”

After taking another sip, he moves over to Kennedy's. He goes without smelling it this time, but this one he probably should have. As soon as the drink enters his mouth, his face twitches, and he has to force himself to swallow it before breaking out in a harsh coughing fit.

“Shit,” he groans. “I got it wrong. It's Kennedy who's trying to poison me.”

She rolls her eyes and takes a sip of it before putting it down, not flinching at all. “You're such a pussy.”

Grabbing the drink, I don't even have to taste it. One sniff and I can already tell it's fucking lethal. Zayn and I watch Kennedy as she starts sipping on it like it's no big deal. This girl was made for university, I swear.

“Okay, someone needs to show you two how it's done,” Zayn says as he slips off the bar stool and walks around to our side.

Kennedy looks around for our boss. “Are you allowed to be back here?”

Z shrugs. “Sure. At least until someone tells me I'm not.”

I share a look with my best friend, and we both decide to just let him do what he wants. Honestly, Paul is probably tucked away in his office and won't come back out until we're ready to close. So, fuck it.

Zayn grabs a shaker cup and starts pouring a few things into it, but he does it so quickly that I can't even pay attention to what he's making. He shakes it up and pours it into a glass before handing it to me. It's a light pink, and the color alone makes me want to tease him for it.

“What is it?”

He nods toward the glass. “Take a sip.”

I narrow my eyes on him. “Now who's trying to poison who?”

A hearty laugh bubbles out of him. “I could never. Who would entertain me then?”

“Jerk.”

Taking a sip of the mystery drink, I'm shocked as the taste hits my tongue. It's tropical and fruity, with the juices in it covering the alcohol taste enough to make it dangerous. I drink a little more before handing it to Kennedy to try.

Zayn stands there with a smug grin on his face, and if he wasn't so damn good looking, I'd want to smack it off of him.

“Well?” he asks me.

I mock indifference. “It's all right.”

Kennedy snorts as she hands it back to me. “Oh, please. It's really fucking good.” She turns to Zayn and nudges him. “Make her a few of those, and you're sure to be able to have your way with her.”

I'm mid-sip as the words leave her mouth, and as soon as I hear them, I choke. Coughing violently and trying to catch my breath, Zayn pats my back while Kennedy gives me her signature “you love me” smile and scurries away before I can yell at her.

Once I have a handle on myself again, I sigh. “She's the worst.”

Zayn smiles in the way that always manages to melt me. “She's not so bad.”

WHEN I CHOSE TO take pre-law, I never knew I would be so bored while sitting through classes. I mean, don't get me wrong, a few of them aren't so bad. But the ones that seem like they're only required because they needed to find credits to fill the semester hours? Yeah, those I could do without.

The professor dismisses us for the day, telling us that our assignment is to write a fifteen-page essay, due three days from now, as if we don't have other classes and lives to live. I scribble it down into my planner and gather my things.
