“Because that would be rude.” I reach up to pinch her cheek. “And you're not rude.”

“Well, what else am I supposed to do?”

I pass the beer to the customer and go back to my spot, leaning back against the bar. “I don't know, hun. I think you're just going to have to deal with it. Besides, it's only a few weeks.”

“Twelve,” she corrects me. “Twelve is not a few, Amelia. And that's easy for you to say. You get to shack up with two extremely hot guys.”

I shiver in disgust. “Okay, gross. One of those is my brother.”

She smirks. “But Zayn's not.”

I should've known she would bring this back up. It was only a matter of time before she started, and I guess my time of hoping she'd keep her comments to herself has expired.

“Zayn isn't an option I have. You know this.”

Shrugging with one shoulder, she bites her lip. “I don't know. Sneaking across the hallway in the middle of the night?”

“You're unbelievable.”

“What?” she laughs. “I'm just saying, it could be hot. You should get on that.”

I'm about to come back with some snappy comment when I notice the way she's trying not to laugh and keeps glancing past me. I stick my tongue in my cheek and exhale.

“He's right behind me, isn't he?” I ask her.

She bites down on her thumb and nods. “Yep.”

I turn around and sure enough, Zayn is standing there looking just as unfairly gorgeous as he usually does. A wide grin stretches across his face as he waves.

“Hi,” he greets me.

I roll my eyes playfully. “Ignore her, please.”

“I don't think that's possible,” he counters. “She's pretty loud.”

Kennedy is in the middle of serving another customer, but calls back to him anyway. “I heard that.”

“You were meant to,” he answers.

Not needing to ask him what he wants, I grab a glass and fill it with his favorite beer before passing it to him. He smiles gratefully at me and takes a sip.

“So, did Easton send you here to spy on me?” I question.

He shakes his head. “I sent myself here to spy on you.”

Oh. Well then. “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah. I mean, I haven't heard anything from him all week, so I think he got the message, but it can't hurt to play it safe. You know?”

I try my best not to swoon at how protective he's being over me. I need to stop myself from thinking too far into it, because if I do, I'll start to think it means something. He's already turned me down...twice.

THE CLUB IS PRETTY dead, which isn't unexpected, being as it's only Tuesday night. To keep us occupied, Kennedy and I start mixing random drinks. Mine start out with mostly juice, but Kennedy straight up pours four different kinds of alcohol into a cup and calls it a day.

Zayn watches with an amused grin on his face until we start to ask him to try them. It honestly looks like he would rather do any

thing else, but I smile sweetly, and it's not long before he caves. He takes mine first and smells it.

“This isn't some kind of slick ploy to poison me, is it?”
