Blade: Let me explain.
Each one makes me roll my eyes. He's sorry now, after the damage has already been done. And of course, he's asking about me now, but where was the part of him that cared when he was taking off and leaving me to take the fall for his shit?
My mother has always told me that when someone shows you their true colors, you believe them. People can fill your mind with lies, but the truth always manages to slip through and reveal itself. Last night, I saw Blade's truth, and it made me see him for who he really is.
A liar.
A convict.
A drug dealer.
My mind goes to Zayn, and how he tried to warn me. I should have listened to him. The sincerity in his eyes when he told me to stay away from Blade haunted me for days, but I still didn't listen. Everyone can try telling me that this wasn't my fault all they want. The truth in the matter is I played a key part in my own downfall.
Hell, even Kennedy tried to warn me the other day. She told me she had asked around about him and heard some not so great things. But I was too concerned about having a boyfriend; it's like I lost sight of who I am, for him.
Not anymore.
I won't let him ruin my life the way he's ruined his own.
Typing out two quick messages, I send them both one right after another. One to Zayn and one to Blade.
Amelia: Thanks again for last night. -Meelz
Amelia: I'll meet you at our bench in thirty. We need to talk.
I make quick work of getting dressed and straightening my hair. Then, I apply a thin coat of makeup I almost never wear. Kennedy looks over at me and smirks.
“You're making yourself look good so he knows what he lost, aren't you?” she asks.
I shrug. “There's nothing wrong with causing a little regret.”
She snorts. “And if he tries to make all these false promises and tries to keep you from breaking up with him?”
I'm sure it'll happen. He doesn't look like the kind of guy who deals well with not getting his way. But no part of me is willing to let that happen. If I had known who he was from the get-go, I never would have accepted that first date.
“I'll tell him to shove it up his ass before I tell the whole school he suffers from erectile dysfunction and chlamydia.”
Her brows raise as her smile widens. “Damn girl. Prison changed you.”
I chuckle and flip her off before grabbing my phone and heading for the door. “Wish me luck.”
“You don't need it,” she calls back as I leave. “You're an independent woman who don't need no man!”
People out in the hall look at me oddly, but I can't be bothered. I have shit to handle.
THE SECOND I WALK up to the bench, Blade is already sitting there waiting for me. He must hear me coming, because he instantly looks up and smiles at me.
“I'm so glad you're okay,” he says as he tries to give me a hug, but I stop him with a hand on his chest.
“Don't touch me.”
He frowns. “Amelia, don't be like that.”
“Be like what?” I scoff. “Angry that you ditched me and let me take the fall for you? Or furious that you didn't tell me we were going on a fucking drug run?”
His eyes scour the area as he shushes me. “Could you keep your damn voice down? My God.”
Of course. The only thing he's worried about is people finding out about him. “You're unbelievable.”
