“Did you just get home?” she asks.

I swallow down the lump in my throat. “Uh, yeah.”

She sits up and turns her light on. “What the—? Have you been crying?”

“A little?”

“A little? Your whole face is puffy.” She scrambles up from her bed and opens her arms in an invitation for her to hold me. “Did he hurt you? Because I'll rip his dick off with my bare hands. I might be little, but I swear, I'm scrappy.”

I chuckle softly at the idea, but shake my head. “I don't even know where he is. He ran off when the cops asked us to get out of the car.”

“The cops?” The shock in her tone is evident.

I nod. “I got arrested. Possession with the intent to distribute.”

“Oh my God, Amelia!”

“I didn't even know there were drugs in the car, Ken,” I start to cry once again. “And he just left me there. One of the officers took off after him, but he was too fast.”

She sighs and pulls me closer. “I'm so sorry, babe. That must have been terrifying.”

“It was,” I confirm.

As if she didn't realize it before, I feel as she smiles. “Whose hoodie is that? And how did you get home?”

I roll my eyes, already knowing where she's going with this. “Zayn. I tried calling Easton, but he was asleep, and Z answered.”

“And he went in the middle of the night to go bail you out of jail?”

“I know, I know. He's fifty times the guy Blade will ever be,” I sigh. “Too bad he'll never be mine.”

She doesn't press that topic, even though it lo

oks like she wants to. “So, what are you going to do?”

I stand up. “The only thing I can do. I need to break up with him.”

She exhales in relief. “I think that's for the best, babe. I'm proud of you.”

“Thanks. I'm going to go take a shower though,” I tell her. “Being in jail made me feel disgusting.”

Yawning, she nods and lies back down. “I'm falling back asleep, but if you need me, wake me up.”

I go to answer her, but before I can, she's already passed out.

THE PROBLEM WITH NOT going to sleep until well after people are already getting up for class is missing three of your own. However, that's the least of my worries. After the night I had, I think I can afford to miss a lecture or two. It's not like I'm going to fall behind.

Kennedy comes in with food just as I'm waking up and hands me a brown paper bag. I take it from her and practically moan at the sight of a bagel from our favorite cafe.

“You are a goddess,” I tell her.

She chuckles. “I know.”

I reach over to the nightstand and grab my phone off it, finding three new texts from Blade.

Blade: I'm sorry babe. I couldn't let them arrest me again.

Blade: Are you okay? Please answer me.
