“I’m gonna go move the car,” Slash said to me.

I nodded.

He gripped the back of my neck and pulled me to him. He kissed me hard and fast with just a bit of tongue that made me want to fling myself into his arms.

When he pulled back, he smirked as if he knew what he’d done to me.

I stared after him.

Someone cleared a throat.

I turned my head and saw Mia standing next to the sliding door, a huge grin on her face. “We haven’t officially met yet. I’m Mia.”

“Hi, I’m Brooklyn.”

“I know who you are.”

“Oh.”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean that to sound alldid she cook your rabbityet.” She smiled.

“It’s totally okay. So, what do you know about me?” I asked.

“That you own Pie in the Sky…and a little bit about your relationship with Slash.”

I sighed. “So, you know? That I’m...”

“Pregnant,” she finished for me. “Admitting it is the first step.”

The baby against her chest began to stir. Mia dipped her head and brushed her cheek against the baby and another pang went through me.

“Did Slash tell you?”

“Yeah, he told us. He kind of had to.”

“Why?” I frowned.

“Because he decided to stay in town, and for a Nomad to commit to staying in one place for the foreseeable future, he needed a damn good reason. You were the reason.”

Chapter15

I wasn’tsure how to respond.

Mia watched me carefully and then broke the silence between us. “Come outside and meet everyone.”

She opened the sliding glass door and stepped into the backyard. I followed her to a group of women who were sitting on patio furniture.

“Guys,” Mia said when we stopped at the group. Attention turned to me. “This is Brooklyn.”

There was a chorus of greetings.Mia moved around the circle and introduced everyone.

Aside from Darcy, who clearly was the oldest Old Lady of the group, everyone else had babies or were pregnant. I suddenly felt comforted. As much as I adored Jazz, she was several years younger. I was in the company of other mothers now—women who’d gone through what I was about to go through.

“Mama,” a little girl with blonde curls whined as she threw herself across Darcy’s lap. “I’m hungry. When is Uncle Boxer getting back so we can eat?”

“He’s picking up your Aunt Linden and they’ll be back soon,” the woman explained. “Ask your father for a snack.”

The little girl looked at the cluster of men in leather. They were older than the guys I’d seen in the living room setting up.
