“First sonogram tomorrow, yeah?” he asked.
“Yeah.” I snuggled. “I set an alarm.”
“Good.” We fell into a companionable silence and then he asked, “How many?”
“How many what?”
“Kids.”
I rolled over so my lips pressed against his chest. “How many doyouwant?”
“As many as you’ll give me.” He hooked my leg over his hip, opening me up to him.
“You’re forty-three.”
“Thanks for the reminder.”
I chuckled. “I just mean, well…”
“I’m gonna be an old dad anyway. One or five, it won’t matter.”
“Five?”
“Just a number, babe.”
I snorted and then gasped as the tip of him eased into me.
“You want one? We can do that, but I like the idea of our kid having a sibling. And I really like the idea of our kid having a sibling close in age. But you tell me what you want, and I’ll give it to you.”
I wriggled against him, forcing him to slide all the way into me so we were completely joined.
I could see our life together. A house with kids running around, maybe a dog or two. Surrounded by friends and the Blue Angels. It was a beautiful picture, made truly complete because we’d found one another.
Slash grasped my hip and rolled onto his back, so I was astride him.
“I’ll give you whatever you want, woman. Just ask.”
I ground down on top of him, causing him to moan.
“Right now, all I want is this.”
Chapter32
I sippedon a juice box while Slash and I waited for the doctor. I was on an exam table, and he was sitting in the chair against the wall.
He was flipping through aWomen’s Health Magazine, head bent, seemingly lost in an article when he said, “You’re staring at me.”
“Yeah.”
“Why are you staring at me.”
“Because I think you’re pretty.”
He snorted and lifted his gaze. Amusement stamped his lips—lips that had been between my legs not even two hours before.
Slash couldn’t be called beautiful, and it had nothing to do with the blatant scar across his face. I barely noticed it anymore. No, he was too rugged, too masculine. A jaw too chiseled to be subtle. His face was weathered and grooved from years on the road.
I was too busy staring at him all moony-eyed to realize the door had opened and the doctor had strode in.
