“He’s the only one who’s got the keys,” Trevor spits. “But maybe you could ask him to give them to you. I’m sure you could use your feminine wiles to convince him.”

Not really listening, because I’m too busy trying to get him out, I glance at him when he says,

“Kiss me. Just kiss me once and maybe I’ll have it in me to forgive you.”

Stressed out and confused, I say, “What? I’m not going to kiss you...”

“You should. You kissed him and more.”

Frowning, I answer, “Alec?” I swallow. “He’s my husband but it’s not important. What matters now is to get you free...”

Trailing off I freeze when I hear footsteps behind me and I throw a look over my shoulder. Alec. Silent and deadly with a calculated look in his cold eyes.

Standing up, I’m tempted to slap him like the first time we met, only harder. Shaking, I stab my fingers through my hair in fury, “What did you do?” My eyes bore into his. “What didyoudo?”

Alec

This isn’t how it was supposed to go. She wasn’t supposed to find him like this and at the sight of her with ratty hair and teary eyes, I curse myself for not taking better precautions. For not telling her sooner.

What does she think of me now? Does she think I am a monster? Does she now hate the man she calls husband?

A barren feeling I’ve never felt before ripples through me. I could lose her. I could lose her because of what I’ve done and I automatically reach my palm out to her.

“Come here,” I rasp, the need for her to come to me making blood rush to my brain.

Letting out an astounded gasp, she shakes her head.

“Come to me,” I snap again, nearly breaking out in cold sweat at her refusal and she snaps back,

“You don’t get to make demands on me anymore.” Her eyes fill with disappointment. She’s disappointed I’m not the man she thought I was.

The look on her face crushes me.

“Release him, Alec,” she points at Sorkin, her features screwing up in confusion and sadness. “Release him now.”

Straightening, I give her a long look and it makes her cower a little. “That man is my prisoner. He went against the brotherhood and this is his punishment.”

Her eyes flash like lightning. “I don’t care what he did. Release him!” Crossing her arms, her mouth starts quivering and I cannot watch her like this.

Bending down I unlock Sorkin from the chains and he massages his wrists. Glancing at Lyla he reaches for her, like she is his savior and I’m tempted to throttle him and even more so when she reaches for him too, helping him stand.

“Don’t touch him,” I tell her between my teeth and her head jerks, causing her hair to flair.

“Don’t tell me what to do. Look what you’ve done to him.” Her concerned face turns to Trevor. “Honey, can you stand?”

Honey? Honey? Fury storms in my veins, making me feel like black shadows are crawling in on me and I growl,

“Lyla, you’re pushing it. Now get the fuck away from him.”

“Alec, stop it!” she cries. “Leave us alone.”

Her words make me snap and I grab the Glock, lying on the floor and I point at Sorkin, causing both of them to gasp.

“Us? There is no you and him. Only you and me.” I put my finger on the trigger. “There is one bullet left in this gun. Try to leave with him and I’ll put it through his brain.”

Letting out a sob, Lyla starts shaking. “No. You won’t. I know you will let us walk because I know you’re not a monster. Despite of what you’ve done.”
