Hailey slaps his shoulder. “I thought you approved of Aiden.”

“I do. Doesn’t mean I have to like the fucker, though,” he says and stomps off.

Hailey watches him walk off. “Was that weird? It was weird, right?”

Aiden takes her hand and drags her back into the booth. “He needs time to adjust is all. It’s one thing to know your baby girl is getting married. It’s another thing to know she’s married and now has a man warming her bed every night.”

Her brow wrinkles. “How do you know what he’s thinking?”

“Because I plan to be the same way with our daughters.”

Her eyes widen and she shakes her head. “Our daughters?” She gulps.

“What are we talking about?” Phoebe asks as she and Ryker join us.

I grin. “Hailey’s panicking because Aiden brought up children.”

Phoebe sits in the chair Ryker dragged over with a frown on her face. “Darn. I thought we were going to spend the evening teasing you for hooking up with Grayson.”

Well, shit. This evening took a major nosedive. I push Grayson’s shoulder. “Come on. Let’s go play some pool.” The man does not move. Not an inch!

“I thought you were hungry.”

“I’m fine.” My stomach growls and makes a liar out of me. Stupid stomach. Why does it insist on being fed?

“A little birdie told me Grayson took Suzie to a brewing festival last week,” Phoebe tells Hailey.

“It wasn’t a little birdie. I told you. I wasn’t trying to hide anything. And it wasn’t a beer festival, it was a craft brewers conference.”

Hailey stares at me with her mouth hanging open. “Grayson took you to a brewers’ conference?” I don’t bother responding. I literally told her he did five seconds ago.

“Yep,” Phoebe answers. “But she won’t tell me anything about what happened. She’s been holding out on me.”

“What are you talking about? I told you all about the microbiology class and the beer styles class and—”

Phoebe holds up her hand. “Let me stop you there. You did bore me with all those details no one in the world except you cares about. What we want to hear about is what you and Grayson got up to.”

“Come on, Suzie, why don’t you give us all the deets?” Hailey mimics my earlier remark.

I growl. She is not amusing.

“Yeah, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

My brow wrinkles. “I don’t understand your analogy. Aren’t we both ganders? Wait. Which one is the female, and which is the male?”

Hailey slams her hand on the table. “We will not be distracted.”

“I’m out.” Aiden stands.

Ryker grunts, which I interpret as me too. He kisses Phoebe’s temple. “Don’t give her too hard of a time, Princess.”

But when Grayson stands, I clutch his hand in a panic. “Where are you going?”

He leans down and kisses my forehead. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back when the food arrives. You can survive fifteen minutes with your best friends, can’t you?”

He pries his hand free and follows Aiden and Ryker to the pool table.

“Oh good, now the men are gone, you can tell us how you’re doing,” Hailey says.
