Lola woofs, obviously not happy with being left out of the forever scenario. Aiden rolls his eyes and looks down at her. “You, too. I’ll give you lots of puppy treats and take you on long walks.” He scratches her behind the ear until her tongue lolls out of her mouth.
Once the dog is completely satisfied, which is super easy to do since she’s a bit of an ear-scratch-slut if you want to know the truth, Aiden focuses his attention on me. “What is it going to be? Are you going to admit what we both know? Or are you going to stand there and be a chicken shit?”
I glare at him. I am not a chicken shit. I’m merely cautious. The only man I’ve ever told I love you to is Pops. This is a big deal. He bawks and my glare intensifies. “Fine. I love you. Are you happy now?”
“Ecstatic,” he murmurs before his lips descend and mold to mine. Before I get a chance to pull him close and devour his mouth, he pulls away.
I throw my arms in the air. “What now?”
“Now, I take you home and make good on my promise.”
My eyes round and my body heats. “Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. Close your mouth, honey.”
