They were in love. Or at least my dad was. In Luke’s case, I didn’t know him that well. He struck me as nervy by the way his eyes darted about.

“What do you specialize in?” I asked.

“Entertainment. That’s my interest. I studied piano as part of my degree.”

Theadora entered my thoughts. I didn’t need much to think of her since she’d become my obsession.

I hadn’t been able to reach her all day. It was the day after our first steamy night together. I even went looking for her at Merivale, only to find that she’d gone to London.

Had I frightened her off?

I’d promised myself I’d achieve my goals in the coming year. Unhinged from the last tour, I had to keep focusing or else I’d lose myself. Instead, I’d now lost myself to lust.

If I thought fucking Theadora might have doused the spark that started from the moment I saw her in that corset, I was wrong. She had ignited a fucking blaze.

“So you look after bands?” Savanah asked Luke.

He nodded, while draining his glass. “All kinds of artists and performers. I organise their contracts.”

“There must be lots of parties,” she said, sounding impressed.

I rolled my eyes. “Do you think of anything but?”

She poked her tongue. “Just because you’re the do-gooder, doesn’t mean we all have to be.”

Ethan chuckled.

And so it went on and on. I was only half there as small talk drifted from Savanah to Luke and Ethan.

“I like your idea of a boot camp,” my father said.

“Thanks. Mother seems to think I’ll be running Satanic rituals.”

Ethan laughed. “Now that would be fun.”

My father explained my project to Luke.

“Mm… nice. I’m rather fond of the butch, sweaty soldiers on that reality show.”

“Me too. Now we’ll have that live. It’s kinda going to be fun,” Savanah said.

“I’m not planning a circus here. And we are talking about teenagers and not soldiers,” I reminded her.

She shrugged. “Mm… whatever. We can have fun imagining it, though, can’t we?”

I had no argument there. A bit of playfulness never hurt.

Savanah dominated the rest of the dinner, chatting about music, clothes, and parties. With my head elsewhere, I didn’t get much of a look into Luke’s character.

He struck me as shallow. But my father was happy and that was all that mattered.

After dinner, I shook Luke’s hand and headed out into the night. Ethan and Savanah tagged along.

We stood at the end of the lane. “What do you think?” Ethan asked.

“Luke appears a little jumpy to me,” I said.

“He’s coked out,” Savanah said.
