Chapter Seventeen
For the next couple of weeks, Noah’s time was divided between his company and Arthur’s. This was the first time in all of his business takeovers that he’d spent so much time on one project. He’d been through the financials, the projects, everything, and he couldn’t find a single reason for the company to be struggling the way that they were.
Rubbing at his eyes, he knew the reason wasn’t just to help Arthur. He had a more meaningful reason for being at the company, and that was in the form of a curvy brunette who had gotten sexy as fuck.
When had she gotten such a tempting ass?
He was staring down at the paperwork in his hands, for another contract unrelated to the Arthur deal, but he couldn’t think about the work.
No, his thoughts were on Skye.
Remembering how good she felt beneath him, over him, taking all of him. Of course, with his memories came the pain that he’d inflicted on her that first time, the force with which he had to take her to save her.
Part of him was ashamed with how aroused he was recalling their time together locked away in a cell and liking it. Only, he couldn’t hate it. There had been many times over the past few years, even during his marriage, when he’d thought about her.
Skye was part of his past. She’d helped to mold him into the man he was today. Through hell and back, she’d been by his side, and for that, he couldn’t ever forget her.
Their dinner date hadn’t gone according to plan. By the end of it, he’d known she wanted to be left alone. He’d fucked up by invading her privacy when it came to her failed marriage. He had a hunch why it ended though, a big fucking hunch seeing as he suffered one himself.
Dropping the paperwork onto his desk, he got to his feet and looked out his office window. He was on the top floor of a fifty-story building. It was pretty high, especially as he didn’t like heights, but he didn’t mind this. He stared out across the city. It was lunchtime, and like always cars were honking at each other, impatience spreading through every person as they went about their day. He hated traveling during the day, especially during those times when everyone wanted to head home.
He wondered what Skye was doing right now.
Arthur couldn’t afford her.
She’d taken a huge pay cut in an attempt to make ends meet, and he knew without a shadow of a doubt she was damn good at her job.
He wanted her close by.
Pressing the intercom to get his PA on the line, he told her to arrange a meeting between him and Skye Banks. He didn’t like how saying “Banks” irritated him. It was another element to remind him she’d been with someone else.
What did you expect?
You weren’t there.
You left, and she didn’t fight for you to stay.
Stop being a bastard about it and deal with it.
Sitting back at his desk, he ignored the time, and tried to suck himself back into his paperwork. The more he did during the week, the easier his weekend could be.
He tapped his pencil on the desk, aware of each minute that passed. Even though he didn’t look at the time, he couldn’t help but hear the ticking of his clock. It seemed to echo so loudly in his still office.
By the time his PA notified him of Skye’s arrival, he was more than fucking ready for it.
He got to his feet and opened his door. He offered Skye a smile and advised his PA to halt all of his calls and to go home early.
Skye stepped into his office and he closed the door, offering them privacy.
“Your PA didn’t tell me what to bring. She said it was urgent,” she said.
He watched her tuck some hair behind her ear. His cock was so hard as he watched her. She licked her lips, and he knew what else she could do with that tongue of hers.
“You want a drink?”
“Noah, I’ve got to get back to work.”
“Yeah, about that, how would you like to work for me?” he asked, moving toward his coffee machine. He didn’t like to ask his PA to make coffee. He’d be worried that if he pissed her off too much, she’d spit in it. He could easily make his own coffee, and he liked it black and sweet.
