“What are your plans for this evening?” he asked, riding down the elevator with him.

“I’ve got to pick Daisy up from soccer practice.”

“Daisy?”

“Yes, I have a tomboy for a daughter.”

Shaun laughed. Daisy was a little firecracker.

“What about you?”

“I’ve going to see my wife.”

Bruce chuckled. “You’ve been in a good mood since she visited. Did you get any of the brochures I left on your desk?”

He had, and he’d already booked a trip to Italy and to London. He wasn’t too sure about London though. The last time he’d been there, it hadn’t struck him as the kind of place to appeal to Addie. Still, he’d do anything for her.

“Yes, I did, thank you.”

The elevator opened on the underground parking. He shook hands with Bruce, and made his way to his car. He’d just settled into the driver’s seat when his cell phone rang. When he saw it was his father, he frowned.

What was his father calling him about?”

“Hey, Dad, what’s up?” he asked.

“Hi, son, I just thought I’d put a call through to you.”

“It’s not like you to do.”

“We saw your conference. We weren’t aware of Addison’s career development. Your mother, she’s not exactly impressed. She’s been by your house, and no one is answering.”

Rubbing his temple, he cursed in his mind.

“Dad, I’m happy for my wife to be making a career.”

“Your mother has been losing her mind, Shaun. She wants you and Addison to come around for dinner on Sunday. She’s inviting Addison’s parents as well.”

Shaun cursed. “Look, we’ve had a few setbacks, okay? I’m not going to get into it on the phone. Tell Mom, we’re not going to make it.”

“I’m giving you a warning, she’s out to get answers.”

He was thankful for the heads-up. His mother had always been a pain. She truly believed she was helping, when in fact, she was always causing problems.

Speaking with his father for a few minutes, Shaun finally hung up after saying goodbye. He spoke to his father regularly, whereas he kept a wide berth of his mother. She was the type of woman who always found fault with everything. Addie had been their second choice.

It was so damn frustrating.

The drive toward Addison’s apartment helped to clear his mind. He was heading toward the door when he saw Dean park his car. The other man climbed out of his car, and he looked tired.

“Long day?” Shaun asked.

“Long, tiring, and freezing. Do you have any idea how hard it is to stand on a beach and look hot, while you’re freezing your ass off?”

“You’re a model?”

“Yep, a damn good one as well.” Dean clicked his car shut. “I make big bucks.”

“Why are you living here then?”
