ChapterFifteen

Thayer knew they had fucked. The scent of it had been thick when they walked in the door. A blush had stolen over Jessa’s cheeks, and a satisfied grin covered Deacon’s face.

To say he wasn’t jealous would have been a lie, but his jealousy stemmed from the fact Deacon had tasted her first, not that he had actually had her.

He watched her slip into her room after she said she needed to clean up before dinner. Slicing his eyes to his brother, he watched Deacon’s grin grow as he leaned against the counter and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Deacon, I thought we were going to go slow with her?” The grin left Deacon’s face at Thayer’s words.

“I know, and that was the plan, but Thayer…” He inhaled deeply. “I’ve been having a hard time controlling myself around her. I’ve been going on three, four runs a day since she got here.”

“Why didn’t you go into town?” Just the thought of being with a woman had Thayer feeling revolted. The look on Deacon’s face said he felt the same way.

“Thayer, I couldn’t even get it hard for any other female at this point.”

Yeah, Thayer knew he was the same way. His thoughts were consumed with images of Jessa. Her sweet scent invaded his senses until he couldn’t concentrate.

His constant state of arousal was a new experience for him.

“Sooner or later she’s going to find out what we are, Deacon. I don’t know about you, but I’m not looking forward to the look on her face when she freaks out.”

Deacon didn’t have a chance to respond because Jessa came out of her room. She stopped and looked between the two of them.

“Everything okay?” Her cheeks were a ruddy color, but Thayer knew it wasn’t from the cold, but from having sex with Deacon.

Clenching his hands at his sides, he forced himself to calm his racing heart as the image of Jessa bared to him in all aspects flooded his mind.

“It’s fine, sweetheart.” He walked over and took her hand in his. She smelled like his brother, a scent Thayer was familiar with. It was one that reminded him of home and happiness.

Maybe others would think his closeness with his brother a bit strange, but growing up it had only been the two of them. Deacon had suffered a lot of hardships just to make sure Thayer had stayed safe.

Of course, his brother thought he didn’t know the dark secrets that surrounded him, that he didn’t know what their father had done to Deacon in the name of “toughening him up.”

Their father’s sick sense of how to raise a child went to the point of depravity. Because of that Deacon had been formed into the male he was now.

After the days of seeing how Deacon interacted with Jessa, there was no doubt in Thayer’s mind that his brother would lay down his own life for their little human mate.

They never had direction or instruction when it came to the issue of mates.

Of course they had heard others speaking about it, telling tales of the older males finding their mates and claiming them, and letting their animals have a taste.

Some of what they heard seemed barbaric, but then again the males speaking of such things had been wilder in nature.

Thayer never thought he would find any sort happiness, that a female would be his to have. They had lived in isolation for so long, with only minimal amount of interaction with others.

If Deacon hadn’t needed Thayer to ground him, to help keep his beast at bay, he would have been out exploring the world.

There were a lot of things he had planned for his life, but family came first, and Deacon was the only family he had left.

“You hungry, sweetheart?” She nodded and let him lead her to the kitchen. He had started dinner while she had been out in the garage.

When she sat at the table he grabbed the wine that had been chilling in the fridge and poured her a glass.

He didn’t know if they could convince her to stay once they fixed her car, but Thayer knew he would do anything in his power to have her stay with them.

Because in just the short time she had been with them, he couldn’t imagine a life without her.
