didn’t think that Quinn would be able to do that. Show up,
refuse to sign, make a scene, but she wasn’t entirely sure.
She’d broken Quinn’s heart. She was absolutely sure about
that. A big middle finger waved in Dallas’ face might be just
what she deserved.
“If you want to come this way, I can show you to Jim’s
office. The receptionist leaned across the desk to say, and
Dallas jumped. “He’s expecting you.”
“Um- okay. Yeah.” Dallas shoved her shoulder bag up onto
her shoulder another inch even though it hadn’t even begun to
fall down.
The receptionist led Dallas down the hall, past all the doors
she remembered from last time. She had no doubts she could
have found her way, but that was probably against company
policy to let just anyone wander around in the office area.
She let out a breath when she saw that it was just Jim in his
office wearing the same white, glistening smile as last time,
and a navy blue suit with a red tie. It was a strange
combination. He indicated the chair in front of his desk as
soon as he saw Dallas.
“Have a seat, Dallas, thank you for coming in again. Quinn
should be joining us shortly. It’s not quite ten yet.”
“No. I’m early. Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. I have the next hour blocked off for
you.”
Dallas sat. Stiffly. Her back might have been straighter
than the chair behind her. She thrummed her fingers on her
legs. She didn’t think she had to dress up for a lawyer
appointment and didn’t want to appear over eager. She’d worn
jeans and a black camisole with a black blazer thrown over.
