Dallas couldn’t believe that Quinn had agreed to sign the

papers with her present. Then again, she wasn’t exactly sure

why she was surprised. Quinn was always a nice person. A

decade had passed and Dallas knew she was kidding herself to

think that Quinn felt anything but indifference towards her.

When she’d really thought about it, she figured that Quinn

would just want to get the thing done and over with. Maybe

she even knew about the clause. Maybe for her it wasn’t an

issue.

It wasn’t an issue for Dallas either.

Right. Or so I keep telling myself.

Her nerves as she stepped into the elevator at a quarter to

ten on Thursday morning told a different story. She was so

nervous that she could barely sign the sheet for the security

guard again. It was more of an illegible mess than an actual

name on that sheet. She just about melted down in the

elevator, and couldn’t imagine that she looked great greeting

the receptionist.

She was thankful that Quinn wasn’t in the waiting area.

Either she wasn’t there yet, or she was already there, in some

room somewhere. The thought made Dallas even more jittery.

What would Quinn look like? Would she have changed? Of

course she had changed. How much? What did she do for a

living? Were her sister and brother still living in Topeka?

Dallas had convinced herself that Quinn must be

indifferent, being that she was willing to show up, but she was

worried that she was wrong. What if Quinn was actually going

to shoot venom at her? Start a scene? Show up just to tell

Dallas to go eff herself and refuse to sign?

Quinn always had courage, even if she was shy. Dallas
