I walk toward the front door.

“Brooklyn, wait.” Tyler follows quickly behind me.

“It’s fine, Tyler, honestly. I have no doubt Trent will be more than willing to step in. I know he’s insanely busy as well, but this campaign and the direction it could send your company in means a lot to him.”

“I didn’t mean to make you feel like your career is pointless . . . that’s not what I intended.”

I reach for the front door handle. “It’s fine. Besides,” I turn my gaze over my shoulder and drag my eyes up his body like I’ve seen him do to me several times, “you two look so much alike I doubt anyone will even notice he’s not you.”

I pull the front door open but Tyler’s hand is on it in a flash, slamming it shut as he steps forward.

“I’ll do it.”

I glance up at him, and his lips are inches away. I can feel his chest hit my arm as his breathing grows rapid.

“I’ve got two inches on him and 20 pounds of muscle. People would have to be fucking blind not to see that.”

I shrug nonchalantly. “Maybe, but it’s a risk I’m willing to take if it means working with someone who doesn’t have his head so far up his ass he can’t see the bigger picture for his family business.”

I pull on the door again, but he straightens his arm so I can’t open it. He extends the other one too, so now both hands are flat against the door behind me. I twist my body around until my back hits the door.

He bends his elbows an inch, bringing his nose almost to mine before gritting out the words, “I said I’d fucking do it.”

And just like that, I got Tyler Slade to do exactly what I wanted without him even realizing he was being played.

He might think I’m just a young woman from the city who’s way outside her element, but he’s got it all wrong . . . he’s just met his match.
