“Great. We will meet you there,” Remo goes back to eating.
“Are you ready for today?” Thorn asks.
“It’s Caleb. It could go either way. I trained him, but I have more experience. Nothing is for certain when you enter that cage,” Kingston says.
“Never underestimate your opponent,” Tristan adds.
“Correct, drop dishes in the sink and grab Caleb’s bag. We will see you two at the gym,” he kisses my head and slaps Remo on the shoulder before heading out the door.
“Thank you for taking me,” I tell Remo as I put my dish in the sink. I’ll do them later.
“Embry wouldn’t let me hear the end of it if I didn’t and I don’t mind. It’s my job and you’ll soon be family,” he says, doing the same with his plate.
I grab my card key to the room and head downstairs with him. He helps me into his car and drives the short way to the hospital, parking in the doctor’s lot. We don’t have to wait in line either, he flashes his hospital badge and we’re the first one in x-ray.
“It looks like nothing is broken. Is it only your neck that hurts?”
“Yeah. That’s it,” I tell him.
“I wrote you a prescription for painkillers, Kingston probably didn’t pick them up yet, but we can,” he escorts me to the pharmacy and again, we’re served right way.
I like spending time with Remo, he’s sweet and kind. I can see why Embry loves him.
“No guard today?” Lane is leaning against Remo’s car door.
“Get lost, asshole,” Remo steps in front of me, shielding me. My chest feels tight, I can’t breathe, he’s here. Everything he said to me, did to me comes rushing back. My chest hurts, my vision is blurry. Something Lane said trickles into my mind, but I can’t grasp my head around it, not while it’s pounding right now. But I feel its important.
“I know I can take you,” Lane says, getting in Remo’s face.
I watch as Remo leans over and whispers something in Lane’s ear, and Lane strolls away.
“What did you say to him?”
“Oh nothing really, just told him my real name,” Remo winks as I try to take deep breaths to calm down.
“What is your real name?”
“It’s Remo, like Embry said. That’s all you’re getting,” he smirks. I feel like he’s doing this to keep me talking, to calm me down. It’s working.
“Then I really don’t know the secret,” I say as he chuckles.
“Thank you for today,” I rasp.
“My pleasure,” he says, though he looks off in the distance like something is bothering him.
“You going to stay?” I ask him as we pull up to the gym.
“Never miss his fights. Plus I’m the doctor he asked to be here for this.”
“Always good to have a doctor on hand,” I tease, as we walk inside.
“Always,” he smiles.
There are seats set up around the main cage and they look to be full. I only see one news team setting up shop. Thorn and Tristan are taking tickets and wave when they see us.
“Where is King or Caleb?” I ask.
“In his office,” Tristan says as Piper takes a seat with them.
