“Oh well, ummm,” she doesn’t know what to say, but I do see the fear in her eyes.

“I didn’t want to tell you,” I admit.

“He said what now?” Now Thorn is furious.

“You heard me correctly. I didn’t want to say anything, but I don’t want to lie.”

“He won’t get away with this,” Thorn snaps.

“No, Thorn, he won’t. I’m not going to let him,” I say with confidence. Win or lose in that cage, Lane is going to jail.

“Good,” Thorn nods. Once in the room, Tristan goes for some ice to put on my knuckles as we sit on the couch. I really didn’t mean to grab her so hard, I was just mad. I can’t lose her, holding on to her assures me she’s still here with me.

Everyone is on edge after that, but I tell them to get out of the room, try to have some fun. Holden, Caleb, and Piper go for a drink at one of the hotel bars. Thorn, Tristan, Remo, and Briar hang out in the living room. I tried to get Thorn to go try and have some fun, but I think he’s reluctant to leave his sister. I have a phone call to make so I step out of the room, leaving them to whatever movie they turned on. I head down to the casino and call my mom.

“I was just talking about you,” she greets me.

“Of course you were,” I chuckle.

“All good things, I promise. I was just telling Mary that you were in Las Vegas for your fight,” she says.

“I am, but I wanted your help with something.”

“Did you just ask for my help?” she asks, sounding surprised.

“I did,” I admit.

“I never thought I would see the day when my baby boy asks for my help,” she chuckles.

“Mom!”

“Right. What can I help you with?”

“After this is done and Lane is in jail, I want to marry Briar.”

“Oh my, yes!”

“Calm down. I need you and Tana to help plan it.” I hate saying that. I wish Embry was here to help, but she’s made her choice.

“Of course.”

“I was thinking a Vegas wedding but now I’m thinking a beach wedding when we get home. I want this to be a surprise.”

“Tana is on her way to Vegas right now, but I’ll call her and we can start planning.”

“Thank you,” I say and she gasps.

“I’m going to die of a heart attack. My son just thanked me.” She starts laughing as I hang up. Overly dramatic much?

I grab a latte for Briar and stop at the gift shop for some more beer. I ask them to send up a bottle of wine since I only have two hands.

I’m casually walking through the lobby toward the elevators, checking out the scenery when I feel a tap on my shoulder.

“Well, well, well. You’re without your posse,” he sneers.

“Lane.”

“Kingston.”
